About the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center (The “Museum”)
Founded in 2001, the mission of the Museum is to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against bigotry, hatred and violence. The Museum serves approximately 30,000 people at the Museum, at schools, and in the community. The Museum educates nearly 15,000 students and teachers annually, helping teachers to meet the Florida state standards for Holocaust education. The organization has a staff of 8, an annual budget of $1 million and a 9,600 square foot facility built in 2019 and expanded in 2023.
Position
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Museum’s staff, programs, finances, expansion, and execution of its mission.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
· Ensure ongoing programmatic and exhibit excellence, consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, facility and systems
· Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
· Actively engage and energize the Museum’s volunteers, board members, committees, Advisory Council, partner organizations and funders.
· Develop, maintain, and support a strong board of directors; serve as ex-officio of committees, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction.
· Lead, coach, develop and retain the Museum’s staff.
· Ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, measure and communicate successes to the board, funders and other constituents.
Fundraising & Communications
· Expand revenue to support existing program operations and fund future expansion, while simultaneously creating reserves, endowment, and retiring building debt.
· Develop and maintain strong communication and trust with major donors
· Prepare grant proposals, budgets and reports to grantors.
· Deepen and refine all aspects of communications, from web presence, media relations, etc., to create a strong brand and awareness among target audiences.
· Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization with the media and other constituents.
Administration
· Manage budgeting and financial forecasting, insurance, annual state and local fees and reporting, payroll and benefits.
· Prepare materials for the annual financial audit and Form 990 tax return and ensure a clean audit
· Serve as elected board member (possibly chair) of the Imperial Square Association which involves decision-making on insurance, improvements, and general maintenance of the building.
Qualifications
Advanced degree, ideally an MBA, with at least 10 years of senior management experience.
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
