The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Branch is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and operating facilities at the District's 1,300 schools and centers, as well as various administrative sites. The M&O team consists primarily of custodial and trades classifications, which include: air conditioning repair technicians, asbestos abatement workers, custodial workers, carpenters, electricians, floor covering installers, gardeners, glaziers, machinists, painters, pest management technicians, plumbers, plant managers, piano and instrument repair technicians, roofers, tile layers, and tree surgeons. M&O has a workforce of approximately 5,200, which includes 2,880 employees in the M&O Areas and District offices, and 2,300 school-based custodial employees.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Facilities Maintenance and Operations (M&O) will plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Facilities Services Division M&O Branch in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of District facilities and equipment.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Pending Personnel Commission ApprovalEducation:Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree, preferably in architecture, engineering, facilities management, planning, construction management, business or public administration. Courses in business administration, public relations, maintenance planning, accounting, school finance, personnel management, and communications are preferable. A graduate degree in any subject is preferred.Experience:Ten years of management experience overseeing facilities management activities, including responsibility for planning, coordinating, and executing capital maintenance and repair projects, or facilities maintenance, or facilities operations, or any combination of these areas.The following work experience is preferable:Experience with LEED certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS)Experience with MAXIMO or an equivalent maintenance management systemSpecial:
A valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferable.A valid California Driver's License to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have management-level experience in facilities maintenance and operations within large public, private, government, or non-profit organizations.
