Job Mission

The Senior Apparel Designer will help lead category innovation design into the future, creating revolutionary apparel solutions for all types of runners. You will champion design excellence by fostering innovation and encouraging risk-taking, acting as a catalyst for experimentation and change. Your role will involve supporting New Balance's apparel innovation strategy through the creation of groundbreaking product concepts rooted in performance and craftsmanship. By leveraging advanced research and insights from consumers and record-breaking Olympians you will develop innovative solutions for the road, track, and trails.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Design:

Actively designing apparel concepts and solutions that lead and push the category innovation team.

Leadership:

Encourage and foster a culture of innovation and professional growth within the design team, challenging conventional design norms and exploring new ideas.

Tell stories:

Throughout the creation process communicate the “why” and produce a narrative that engages the team, the brand, and the consumer.

Consumer obsessed:

Truly strive to understand the running consumer and their holistic lifestyle.

Be a maker:

Take risks, solve problems and utilize any and all tools necessary from sketch to 3D, and rapid prototyping to create fast, test and learn.

Be a true innovator:

An idea is only as good as the realization of the concept. Be a catalyst of creation by translating designs into prototypes, driving innovation through materials, manufacturing processes, and a relentless attention to detail.

Brand Alignment and Strategy:

Support the long-term brand strategies, align with business goals and growth plans, and ensure that all designs are consistent with the brand’s values while strategically pushing us above and beyond.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

Bachelor’s degree in apparel design with a focus on pattern cutting and utilization of high performance is highly advantageous. At least 10-12 years of experience in high performance apparel design, with a proven track record of successful collections and products.

Some experience and interest in a leadership role, managing design projects and project teams.

A strong portfolio showcasing a range of successful apparel designs, demonstrating creativity, technical skills, and market success.

Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) along with 3D and AI tools such as Clo.

Strong understanding of apparel construction, materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience with 3D design and prototyping tools is a must. Clo3D is preferred.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong presentation skills to showcase designs and collections to internal teams, executives, buyers, and media. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey design concepts and strategies to various stakeholders.
