Abbott’s Medical Device Division supporting R&D IT.As the
Senior Database Engineer I , you’ll have the chance to create technical/functional specifications, support new and existing applications and processes to enable development teams to release medical device software and systems more rapidly. You’ll work collaboratively with other IT operational and software engineering teams to deploy and operate our systems/platforms and support client utilization. You will also be responsible for automating and streamlining our operations and processes, along with building and maintaining tools for deployment, and monitoring setup for operational use.What You’ll Work OnConfiguring and maintaining the databases according to the environment strategyEngaging in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resourcesMonitoring database size and healthCreating and managing plans for maintaining statistics and indexesUnderstanding performance metrics, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issuesManaging the logins for different types of access- Role basedApplying RDMS upgrades and updates to production and non‐production environmentsPerforming database backups and verifying restores, prepare for audits.Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuityInstalling and maintaining the administrative and monitoring tools necessary for high level of availability and performance of EMR systemFollow vendor best practices for hardware and software configurationParticipating in change control process for all planned application and technical activitiesCollaborating with technical teams and EMR vendor to ensure proactive supportTroubleshooting and resolving ETL process errorsInstalling, updating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Interconnect‐based toolsModifying the ETL processes to meet organizational reporting needsAdding new tables and columns to the data model as neededWorking with Business Intelligence Developers to provide data needed for reportsResponding to emergency and after‐hours issuesCollaborate with partner IT staff to improve processes and infrastructure setup. Identify manual processes within the organization and automate themContribute to end-user training as needed and be comfortable providing day-to-day supportCommunicates effectively with management to enhance their understanding of the opportunities and limitations of information systemsConform to and enforce planned work priority in the face of continued interruptionsComplies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, adheres to operating procedures, processes, and completes task assignments within the assigned sprintDevelop necessary documentation, testing and change control procedures to satisfy internal product validation and update yearly for audit complianceMaintain accurate current state application architecture diagrams, documentation, and other data sources in a consistent and replicable mannerDevelops detailed implementation, test and roll-back procedures for planned changes and follows code promotion model utilizing change request approvalsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experienceTechnically proficient in analytical database platformsAbility to perform basic troubleshooting on Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Windows Server, and IISUnderstanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance proceduresFamiliar with automated testing and test-driven development practicesExcellent communication and customer service skills. Able to bridge communication between technical areas and business areas for a full and complete understanding of expectationsMust be a self-starter and possess good analytical skillsComfortable partnering with engineers to understand and solve problems that will enable you to deliver reliable software fasterAbility to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environmentAbility to travel approximately 3%Preferred QualificationsRDBMS certificationEMR based application and (or) EMR based database administration certification5+ years of technical database administration experience5+ years of experience translating business requirements into technical designsAt least 3 years’ experience working in regulated environmentsThe base pay for this position is
