Overview

The Applied Sciences Laboratory at SRI International is seeking multiple Applied and Computational Scientists to conduct research and development in the areas of mathematics of generative AI models, scalable graph analysis methods and network sciences, uncertainty quantification and rare event prediction methods, and quantum computation. Though knowledge in one or more of these areas is desired, the ability to quickly learn new topics and dive into unfamiliar areas of research is a key ability that will be required.

These positions will be in support of a new computational and mathematical sciences team at SRI International headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, with flexibility for a hybrid work schedule.Our team focuses on the development of new algorithms for a wide variety of exciting applications including supply chain networks, social graphs, optimization of generative AI models, material failures, and biological systems. The aim of the team is to conduct and publish research at top venues and assist SRI commercialize relevant technologies by filing patents and spinning out start-ups.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will start on the PI track:Develop research ideas, lead the experimental evaluation of these ideas, present work to government and commercial clients,

Collaborate with project Principal Investigators (PIs) and their staff in academia, Industrial and National LabsDocument research in technical reports and research papersWrite ProposalsPropose ideas against funding opportunities.Develop and implement new algorithms and benchmark against state of the art approachesUpon successful program awards the position will transition into PI functionSome travel will be required to project meetings, and conference venues

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Physics or Engineering with a focus on computational sciences, Computer Science or related area.U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.DoD Secret Clearance desired.Demonstrated publication record.Expertise in algorithm development associated with any of the following: artificial intelligence, graph theory, statistical methods, and quantum platforms (both fault tolerant and present-day noisy machines).Demonstrated experience implementing novel algorithms in one or more programming languages such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB and R.Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required.The salary range is: $109,590-$163,015/yr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
