Position Description:
We are seeking a
Machine Learning Developer
who will lead the development and deployment of AI/ML models and algorithms for our client, aligning with organizational goals. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize innovative AI/ML use cases that improve customer experience and drive mission impact. The developer will design and maintain scalable data pipelines to ensure high-quality input for machine learning models while monitoring and evaluating model performance post-deployment. Additionally, the role includes working with data engineers and software developers to integrate machine learning models into existing applications and workflows. A strong focus on user interface design will also be essential, ensuring accessibility and engagement through responsive web applications and effective data visualization tools.
Key Responsibilities
ML Development
Lead the development and deployment of AI/ML models and algorithms to optimize and enhance Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) offerings, aligning initiatives with broader business objectives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize AI/ML use cases, proposing innovative solutions that drive mission impact and improve customer experience.
Implement data-driven solutions using ML frameworks to address complex challenges in food assistance program optimization, participant accessibility, and automation.
Design and maintain scalable data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, processing, and storage, ensuring high-quality input for machine learning models.
Monitor and evaluate model performance post-deployment, implementing necessary adjustments and improvements based on real-world feedback and data.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies and methodologies to continuously enhance the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
Back-End Development
Design and implement scalable machine learning architectures and data pipelines to support model training, validation, and deployment.
Collaborate with data engineers and software developers to integrate machine learning models into existing applications and workflows.
Optimize model performance through hyperparameter tuning, feature engineering, and the implementation of best practices in model management and lifecycle.
Ensure data integrity and availability through effective data governance practices, including data cleaning and preprocessing for training datasets.
Develop robust APIs and microservices to facilitate interaction between machine learning models and front-end applications or external systems.
Front-End Development
Work closely with UI/UX designers to create user-friendly interfaces for machine learning applications, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
Integrate data visualization tools to present model predictions and insights in a clear and actionable format for end-users.
Develop responsive web applications and dashboards to showcase AI/ML outputs, leveraging modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular).
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback and iterate on application designs based on user interactions and performance analytics.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in AI/ML solution development.
Proven experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.
Experience with data engineering, big data technologies, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for AI/ML deployment.
Experience leading or participating in pilot initiatives, particularly in government or public sector environments.
Certifications: Relevant AI/ML certifications are a plus (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning, Microsoft AI Engineer, etc.).
Proficiency in Python, R, or other programming languages commonly used in AI/ML development.
Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, deep learning, and other AI techniques.
Strong project management skills, with experience managing Agile development teams and iterative processes.

Compensation and Benefits:
The projected compensation range for this position is $114,600 to $147,800 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $132,700. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
