ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY EDUCATIONPART-TIME INSTRUCTORThe Department of Elementary & Secondary Education is accepting applications for part-time instructor positions to begin in the Spring 2025 semester. As a newly established unit, Elementary & Secondary Education Department will offer education courses, including coursework related to Illinois Subsequent Endorsements for Professional Educators in areas such as Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Learning Behavior (LBS1), Technology, and iOS and MacOS Computer Science.Truman College is dedicated to hiring faculty who will enhance diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their research, teaching, and service. position conducts formal classes and meets all lab objectives, when applicable, for assigned courses.

contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institute, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIESCreates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student-centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft.Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.QUALIFICATIONSMaster's degree in Education or a related field.Applicable subsequent endorsement: (e.g., Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Learning Behavior (LBS1), Technology, or iOS and MacOS Computer Science).Minimum five years of teaching experience in Grades 3 – 8 and/or high school.Administrative experience in Grades 3 – 8 or high school preferred.Teacher-evaluation experience in Grades 3 – 8 or high school preferred.College teaching experience.Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred.Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.We seek a diverse pool of applicants who are committed to building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty.
