The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Data Management Developer based out of our National Center (Home Based/ Remote work options are acceptable).
We are seeking a Senior Data Management Developer with expertise in software development and data architecture and management in a cloud environment to develop and maintain robust data solutions that empower our research and healthcare initiatives. You will collaborate closely with American Heart Association data scientists, clinical and research volunteers, and program managers to drive innovation and solve research questions.

Responsibilities
Design and implement data pipelines and architectures for efficient data collection, transformation, and loading (ETL) across various platforms, specifically in AWS cloud but experience with other Cloud providers acceptable.
Review existing migration tools and provide recommendations for improving efficiency of data migration processes. Define, document and enhance data migration templates, procedures and tools.
Develop standalone applications for data visualization and analysis, enabling better data accessibility and insights for research teams.
Collaborate with data scientists and statisticians to understand their data requirements and build systems that streamline data workflow and support advanced analytics.
Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations in all data operations and applications.
Stay updated with the latest technologies in data engineering, analytics, and data governance, evaluate new tools and techniques, and propose innovative solutions to enhance data systems, processes, and governance practices.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of data solutions, processes, best practices, and actively share knowledge with the team.
Work as a part of a dynamic team of biomedical researchers, database designers, data scientists, statistician, software developers, and clinical data experts in existing research projects to support the data pipeline, database management, and creation of new tools.

Qualifications
Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
5 years of relevant experience in data engineering, with a solid foundation in using cloud services and application development.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical or healthcare domain, with specific experience handling electronic health record data and clinical data registries.
Proficient in programming languages including Python, Java, and Scala.
Experience with data technologies like Spark; familiarity with data visualization tools.
Proficiency in SQL, database management systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Demonstrated ability to manage codebases using version control systems (e.g., GitHub) and track project workflows using Jira.
Strong understanding of handling large-scale, complex datasets in healthcare settings, particularly with electronic health record and clinical data registries.
Knowledge of techniques and computing framework such as AI, and machine learning.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, and motivation.
Preferred Experience:
Fundamental understanding of all AWS services and interconnectivity of these services. Experience with other cloud providers is acceptable.
Experience in cardiovascular data analysis.
Experience working in a healthcare or research environment.
