and cinema businesses are bringing Dolby’s breakthrough technologies, powering the world’s top movies, TV shows, music, games, and live sports to more places around the world across a wider range of consumer experiences and devices.
Dolby’s predominant business model, in Consumer Entertainment, is one of creating great entertainment experiences, building an ecosystem that delivers those experiences and then monetizing primarily through licensing technologies into consumer electronic devices. Our latest generation of entertainment experiences are Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, and the latest generation of our audio codec is Dolby AC-4.
Responsibilities:
This is primarily an entrepreneurial role to identify opportunities to create new business lines. We expect to explore 1-3 opportunities simultaneously.
Lead virtual, cross-functional teams comprised of about 3 individuals for each exploration, to identify, vet and develop new business opportunities for Dolby’s Consumer Entertainment business.
Identify markets that are worthy of exploration.
Analyze and understand the market deeply enough to identify potential market needs. Test the need-hypothesis by engaging with the market.
Determine potential solutions that Dolby can develop. Test the potential solutions with target customers. Build prototypes as needed.
Adopt an agile, lean and iterative approach to vet opportunities and solutions with the end-goal of building a successful business. Scale appropriately as milestones are met.
Determine the right combination of organic and inorganic means to build the business.
Requirements:
Proven track record of starting new technology-based business and product lines in consumer entertainment.
Ability to tolerate and navigate ambiguity and generate clarity. Many new business exploration projects will be ill-defined at the start and will require a period of germination and dedicated effort to better define the project so that others can contribute.
Knowledge of Dolby’s existing capabilities, business model and processes, and how we generate and capture value.
History of working collaboratively across organizations and leading individuals who do not report to you.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and reports to the VP of Consumer Entertainment.
The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $256,000 - $318,000, which can vary if outside this location, plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
