Job Description - Director of Development, Foundation Relations (2403692)Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four (4) years of full-time experience in higher education fundraising/non-profit management, to include three (3) years in corporate and/or foundation relations, with a demonstrated track record of closing significant gifts/grants. Experience with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards governing foundation grant-making. Ability to structure innovative public-private partnership agreements and write grants.

Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Fundraising campaign experience. Contact management software experience.

Brief Description of Duties:The Director of Development for Foundation Relations at Stony Brook University will identify/cultivate, solicit and steward significant foundation donors on a local and national level to advance the University's mission through gifts, grants, and other forms of support. Collaborates with the Principal Gifts team on principal level foundation proposals, cultivations, solicitations and stewardships. The selected candidate should possess familiarity and comfort with academic culture and/or non-profit environment as well as have excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills and analytical skills.

Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of significant foundation funding proposals in support of University funding priorities and/or invited requests for proposals (RFPs).Oversees appropriate handling and processing of foundation donor-initiated gift/grant agreements, as well as similar fund agreements generated by the Stony Brook Foundation.Liaise with the SUNY Research Foundation, as needed, regarding the acceptance, management and stewardship of certain types of grants.Works closely with Donor Relations and Stewardship staff to ensure appropriate and timely stewardship and reporting associated with significant foundation gifts and grants.Works closely with the Advancement Leadership Team, key Vice Presidents, Deans, and selected faculty to prioritize fundraising initiatives and programs that are most likely to attract foundation support.Identifies key foundation prospects that align with funding priorities, and prepares briefing materials, as appropriate, for University leadership.Conducts personal visits with identified foundation executives and representatives at their offices, as well as on campus, for the purpose of cultivation and solicitation of major funding.Provides staffing as needed for the development of strategic foundation relationships, including the preparation of appropriate briefing materials.Liaises with key offices/departments on campus for the purpose of maximizing and leveraging opportunities for philanthropic support, including but not limited to the: Vice President for Research, Vice President for Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, SBU Medical Center, Athletics, Alumni Relations, Staller Center for the Arts, and individual faculty members.Other duties as assigned.Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
