EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION AT HOPE COMMUNITY

kpCompanies is leading the search for a seasoned and community-centric Executive Director for Hope Community. The ideal candidate is a visionary and strategic leader deeply committed to equity and social justice values. They have a strong background in community organizing, program management, and nonprofit fundraising, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

ABOUT HOPE COMMUNITY

Hope Community is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that strengthens communities and provides pathways to economic and personal opportunity through affordable housing, educational programs and support services. Founded as a shelter and hospitality house in the Phillips Community of south Minneapolis 40 years ago, it has grown into a vital community development organization with a 23-member staff and an annual operating budget of $4 Million. Hope’s vision is a community in which everyone has a safe place to call home as well as the resources they need to thrive. Current Hope programs emphasize youth leadership, health and strong communities, and training opportunities for adults as leaders and entrepreneurs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership, guiding Hope Community in advancing its mission through collaborative leadership. The Executive Director works closely with and is supported by 4 direct reports including the Associate Director, Director of Organizing and Community Building, Director of Development and Impact, and Director of Human Resources and Organizational Culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organization Leadership

Implement long-term strategies to achieve Hope’s mission, addressing challenges and opportunities.

Foster a culture of shared leadership, mutual respect, and inclusion.

Drive fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Oversee operations, policies, and compliance to maintain efficiency and sustainability.

Lead the development of the annual budget, ensuring it reflects strategic priorities.

Encourage innovation while balancing growth and sustainability in programs.

Ensure initiatives are culturally relevant, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.

Support staff entrepreneurship, fostering individual growth and organizational impact.

Promote a healthy work-life balance for all employees.

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNITY IMPACT

Build partnerships and networks to advance Hope’s mission and financial health.

Act as the public spokesperson and advocate for Hope Community.

Represent Hope at key forums and community events.

Lead effective communication strategies to highlight Hope’s values and impact.

BOARD RELATIONS

Collaborate with the Board, keeping them informed of significant developments.

Provide regular updates on organizational progress and financial health.

Leverage Board members’ strengths to advance strategic goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Visionary and collaborative leadership experience.

Deep commitment to equity and social justice.

Strong background in community organizing and program management.

Proven relationship-building and communication skills.

Expertise in nonprofit fundraising and financial management.

Collective bargaining experience.

5 years of previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional and/or personal connection to Hope’s work.

Familiarity with affordable housing systems.

Experience in earned revenue strategies and community organizing.

Proficiency in intercultural work and inclusive communication practices.

Familiarity and/or experience with somatic abolition in concept and practice.

EQUITY AND SALARY DISCLOSURE

We believe in practices that create real equity and pay parity regardless of background or identity. We freely discuss compensation with all qualified candidates the first time we interview them. The expected salary range is $115,000-$125,000, depending on qualifications.
