Position Overview:
The Executive Director, (ED), reporting to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic planning for the Denver Inner City Parish (DICP). The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works closely with senior staff members and the board to fulfill DICP’s vision and mission and ensure the achievement of all strategic goals and outcomes for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for the Executive Director, as the senior staff member of the organization, include:
Strategic Leadership:
Builds capacity, creates, and implements strategy, ensures alignment of all operations and efforts of staff, board, and volunteers to achieve strategic goals.
With Senior Staff, develops and implements plans to support DICP’s strategic goals and initiatives.
Works collaboratively with the Board to monitor community and sector trends to inform strategic planning and increase board engagement and effectiveness.
Is a visionary developing new ideas to advance the organization’s vision and mission.
Champions diversity, equity and inclusion, internally and externally, and is committed to inclusiveness, accessibility, collaboration, and social justice.
Operational & Senior Staff Management:
Oversees all operational aspects of DICP, ensuring effective use of resources and legal and organizational compliance.
Operational Management
Implements and evaluates annual plans and budgets based on agreed-upon strategic goals.
Develops and leads an effective management team, integrating functional areas and ensuring optimized resource management across the Agency including:
Programs
Administration
Development/Marketing
Grants
Finance
Working closely with the Program Director, ensures realignment or creation of programs and services as needed to improve service and support to constituents.
Encourages staff and volunteer development and education and ensures financial support for professional development.
Maintains visibility with front line Staff and leadership teams by being present in the office.
Creates and encourages a collegial and participatory work environment where trust, integrity, inclusivity, transparency, and open communication are valued.
Ensures DICP compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, grant expectations and requirements.
Senior Staff Management
Leads and manages senior staff to achieve DICP goals and objectives
Responsible for the direct supervision and leadership of six or more Director/Manager level employees, including the following:
Recruiting and hiring
Employee annual goal setting
Periodic feedback and coaching
Employee development
Annual evaluation of performance
Compensation, recognition, and rewards
Stewardship & Finance:
Oversees all earned income and fundraising efforts to meet financial targets.
With the accounting firm and the Board Chair and/or Board Treasurer, oversees financial planning and management, including forecasting finances, budget and cash flow management, and compliant accounting procedures.
Responsible for ensuring that the annual budget is thoughtful, achievable, and funded through appropriate channels including, but not limited to, the following revenue-generating sources: individual, corporate, foundation, and community donors; government grants; and events.
Responsible for the organization’s short- and long-term fiscal stability through seeking opportunities and reviewing options for a diverse funding stream.
Works with the Development/Fundraising team and the Board to implement revenue-generating plans; ensures revenue and capital are acquired using best practices and meets the mission, vision, and goals of DICP.
Create and cultivate a diverse set of partnerships in the community to advocate and provide financial support for those served by the DICP
Board of Directors Relationship:
With the Board Chair, develops capabilities and opportunities for DICP’s Board of Directors to achieve strategic goals.
Works with the Board Chair and members of the Executive Committee to set the agenda for each Board meeting.
Engages the Board to fulfill DICP’s vision and mission.
Leverages positioning and influence of Board members to support DICP.
Manages effective and productive communication between staff and the Board.
Provides information and recommendations to the Board for setting or revising DICP’s goals and objectives, strategic planning, and program priorities.
Participates in monthly Board meetings.
Provides regular, written updates on DICP’s programs and progress in meeting established goals.
Catalyst for Sector-wide Initiatives:
Strengthens and galvanizes change-makers across the nonprofit, government, and business community, working together to address poverty.
Primary lead for Community Outreach with diverse inter-faith, private, and public sector partners. Utilize those diverse relationships to strategically support the mission of Denver Inner City Parish
Other:
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
Seven (7) or more years in senior nonprofit (Human Services) management roles
P&L Management experience with annual budget of $3M+
Proven performance, positioning and experience in community with other agencies and partners involved in poverty
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Impeccable integrity and values
Exceptional transparent leadership, management skills and competencies
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in interactions with staff, constituents and partners
Exceptional cultural competencies and skills
Ability to communicate strategic vision and inspire others including staff, board, volunteers, donors, and the community
Solid hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation and financial decision-making
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and drive for results
Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills
Experience in fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Ability to work with all levels of the organization and throughout the sector
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously
Excellent presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management or Business Administration
Ten (10) years senior nonprofit management or business experience
P&L management of annual budget of $5M+
Bilingual – Spanish speaking
Extensive personal/professional network in Denver Metro Area
Physical/Mental Demands & Environment:
Must be able to work outside the office, meeting with prospective donors and organizations
Must be available to work standard work hours as well as attend evening or weekend community meetings, Parish events, donor/sponsor related events, and other activities as needed
Ability to work under and effectively handle stress and pressure
Must be able to stand, lift and carry 25 lbs.
Must be able to complete standard office duties, which may require reaching, twisting, and sitting for long periods of time
Work Hours:
Monday to Thursday, 9 AM - 5 PM
Friday, 9 AM - 3 PM
Some weekends and nights for DICP events and functions
Job Type: Full-time
