Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Architect of Enterprise Infrastructure to lead the design and implementation of advanced enterprise infrastructure solutions that address complex business needs. This role demands extensive hands-on experience with modern data center technologies, including virtualization, cloud computing, containerization, automation, and security practices. The ideal candidate comes from the Value-Added Reseller industry and possesses the ability to understand diverse business requirements, define innovative technical solutions, and effectively present emerging technologies to our clients. You will be responsible for leading teams of delivery engineers, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the successful delivery of solutions across multiple client engagements. This position requires strong leadership, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to staying at the forefront of industry advancements to drive innovation within our enterprise infrastructure practice. This is a remote position based in the Houston area; will require occasional travel to customer sites both in and outside of the Houston area. Responsibilities
Service Delivery – 75% Design and implement complex enterprise infrastructure solutions, including virtualization, hyperconverged, cloud integration, containerization, automation, SDN, BCDR, and software-defined storage, SAN, and NAS environments. Engage with Solutions Architects to validate solution architecture and assist with determining Level of Effort for the scoped solution within a SOW. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive solution delivery per the statement of work (SOW). Develop and maintain methodologies, documentation standards, and project deliverables; ensure consistent application across all engagements. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams and junior engineers. Engage in pre-sales activities, explaining detailed concepts and technologies to customers. Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and application issues, engaging external vendors as necessary. Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to keep the organization at the forefront of enterprise infrastructure solutions. Maintain expertise in advanced technologies (virtualization, cloud computing, containerization, IaC, DevOps, etc.) through continuous learning and hands-on implementation. Manage projects to meet or exceed customer goals within budget and timelines, maintaining high customer satisfaction. Ensure smooth transitions from design to implementation and support, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders. Perform other duties as required to support the success of the organization and its clients. Business Development – 25% Work with the Solution Architect(s) to grow and develop this segment of business. Provide technical guidance and presentations to customers while attending sales calls with Account Managers, Solution Architects, or by themselves. Hold periodic training sessions for Calian Corp Account Executives and Solution Architects so that they can identify opportunities in their accounts. Develop and maintain vendor relationships for technology focus area. Achieve and maintain proper certifications for highest levels of authorizations as mandated by the Vice President, Engineering and Consulting. Design and implement VMware and AHV virtualization solutions that include but are not limited to: compute, storage, applications, networking, and automation. Design and implement Nutanix hyperconvergence solutions that include but are not limited to: compute, storage, virtualization, and management. Design and implement backup solutions that include but are limited to: Rubrik, Cohesity and Veeam. Develop architecture and implementation plans that consider performance, availability, scalability, security, and recoverability requirements. Perform current state analysis of existing IT infrastructure and develop future state solution architecture. Work with project teams to ensure that core architecture components are integrated into project solutions. Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of complex system and application issues. Continuously evaluate emerging virtualization technologies to maintain industry expertise. Develop and maintain documentation and standards. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to multi-task, change direction, effectively prioritize, and meet deadlines, while providing excellent customer service. Interest in being part of a team, and ability to work effectively with both local and remote staff, teammates and managers. Able to interact confidently with C-Level or Director-Level executives at customer sites. Must be a team player with excellent communication skills at the business and technical level and while providing technical leadership to project teams and mentor junior team members. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the IT industry with at least 5 years of experience with VMware / Nutanix / Cisco UCS / HP Synergy. Proven experience in designing and implementing complex VMware / Nutanix / Cisco UCS / HP Synergy solutions. Expertise in Amazon (AWS), and AWS Marketplace. Expertise in data center design, server, storage, network, and virtualization technologies. Strong understanding of application deployment models, including virtualization and cloud-based infrastructure. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
