Position Summary:
The General Manager, Biospecimen Solutions will provide overall strategic leadership for the overall operations in the Norton, MA and Mansfield, MA locations. This key position entails comprehensive oversight of the Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities and operational management of all site activities, including lab operations, data management, product fulfillment, and apheresis operations.
The scope of this role encompasses cultivating and sustaining a world-class biospecimen operations platform, driving scientific engagement, and judiciously managing resources to achieve business objectives efficiently and effectively. This includes formulating and implementing a strategic business plan to support biospecimens customers and developing and sustaining high performing organization characterized by outstanding teamwork, quality, productivity, financial management, and employee engagement to meet short- and long-term growth targets.
The incumbent will manage team leaders and oversee the execution of wet lab operations including biorepository, sample storage, sample processing, and sample profiling / annotation with aspirations to achieve CAP Biorepository accreditation within 12 months. Additionally, the role will oversee and be accountable for data management, product fulfilment and facilities management.
Collaboration within a matrix environment, influencing positive outcomes across teams and locations, is paramount to success, extending beyond Massachusetts to the broader Precision for Medicine network of labs.
Responsibilities:
Ensure customer satisfaction by surpassing expectations and maintaining high operational standards across all projects and services.
Engage proactively with scientific, project management, data management, sales, marketing, and executive teams to drive future pipeline development and leverage capabilities within Massachusetts sites.
Cultivate a professional, business-focused work environment to inspire department members to meet quality objectives, exceed client expectations, and achieve business goals.
Drive inter-departmental collaboration to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with quality and corporate standards.
Lead and manage resources, including personnel and facilities, to ensure timely project completion and attainment of site objectives, emphasizing P&L responsibilities.
Build an effective and accountable site-level management team that works together to deliver on its commitments.
Provide strategic direction for Biospecimen Solutions, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to optimize specimen supply and delivery operations.
Continuously analyze operational, business and quality metrics to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Coordinate resource allocation and expenses in alignment with project/contract requirements and budgets.
Ensure compliance with CAP biorepository/GxP regulations and uphold safety standards within the laboratory environment.
Foster a supportive workplace culture that encourages initiative, innovation, and professional growth among team members.
Attract exceptional talent and create compelling development plans for top performers.
Oversee preparation of annual budget, monthly financial reviews, and monitor overall financial health to meet financial targets.
Forecast costs and develop budgets for specimen acquisition/distribution and supply-chain operations in a Sales & Operation Planning (S&OP) management model.
Define and communicate site goals/objectives and establish annual plans in coordination with corporate planning activities.
Accountable for supply cost controls, accuracy of supply inventories and billing of associated costs.
Provide regular reports on progress, challenges, and resource needs to facilitate informed decision-making.
Identify and recommend new opportunities and initiatives to executive management, contributing to corporate growth objectives.
Expand operations relevant to corporate goals through strategic partnerships, collaborations and new business opportunities.
Develop and sustain supply networks and partnerships to optimize specimen supply chain efficiency and productivity.
Drive innovation by identifying, developing, and implementing new technologies and methods.
Present completed work at scientific and industry forums, contributing to the company's thought leadership and visibility.
Promote the company to local, regional, national and international constituencies through networking, speaking engagements, activity in professional associations and publications.
Other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
Master's Degree and 7 - 10 years' relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree and 10 - 15 years' relevant experience.
Proven track record in operations leadership within biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, lab services, or CRO industry.
Ability to lead teams and coordinate activities across multiple projects in a matrix environment.
Track record of delivering results, effecting change – and holding team members accountable.
Experience in financial management and budget adherence.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and demonstrated history of people management skills.
Familiarity with current regulations regarding the CAP, CLIA, ISO, FDA and other GxP considerations.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred:
MBA is desirable.
Work experience and academic studies in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related laboratory disciplines.
