ABOUT THE COMPANY:

The Davis Center at the Harlem Meer is a brand new state-of-the-art recreational facility in New York City's iconic Central Park featuring a 1.25 acre outdoor area which houses an elliptical pool (280' x 120') that converts to a .75 acre public green during the spring & fall and features a full-size ice rink in the winter months. A 34,000 sq ft adjacent building houses locker rooms, public restrooms, and a large indoor gathering space to support all outdoor programming. Described by Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine as "one of the most important parks equity projects for the City in decades", the new Davis Center is the capstone project of the Central Park Conservancy's 40-year effort to restore Central Park, and will serve as the hub for recreational and community programming in the area. POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Manager is responsible for the financial and operating performance of Sports Facilities Management, LLC. The objectives for this position include:

Optimizing overall operations and customer service

Creating a culture of accountability which supports the organizational values

Meeting or exceeding annual client objectives

Facilitating interdepartmental collaboration

Employee retention and staff development

Development and implementation of employee and operating policies

Implementation of major operational initiatives

Implementation of solutions and systems that support the seven areas above.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Oversee the daily operations of the multi-purpose seasonal outdoor sports facility, including creating and monitoring ice rink programming in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy

Oversee seasonal setup and teardown

Analyze operations to evaluate performance of the company and its staff to meet objectives, and determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change

Establish departmental responsibilities and coordinate functions among departments

Coordinate the development and implementation of recordkeeping systems and other administrative control processes

Supervise and coordinate daily operations of the ice arena, including ice maintenance, scheduling, and facility management

Ensure the ice surface is properly maintained, including resurfacing, checking for quality, and addressing any issues promptly

Oversee effective communications with event owners pre and post event

Oversee the administration and high level of detail required in the organization of events

Assist with labor law compliance and adherence

Be on-site at events and take responsibility for the various aspects of managing personnel and production

Negotiate and produce contracts for relevant vendors building a good working relationship

Build an overall understanding of the events in the company portfolio, their operational aims, and their revenue streams

Close liaison and communication with other departments within the events team including marketing and sales

Ensure all health & safety, quality control, expense management, security, procedures, and facility maintenance

Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health and safety regulations

Coordinate with Client to address any repairs or upgrades needed for the facility and equipment

Confer with client, Sports Facilities Management advisors & support team, and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, and resolve problems

Direct human resources activities, including the approval of human resource plans and activities, the selection of staff, and establishment and organization of major departments

Schedule and monitor continued training for staff on various operational, safety, and legal responsibilities

Oversee front-line team members to ensure compliance with SFM policies and additional applicable laws

Oversee proper cash handling procedures

Assist in serving stakeholders with proper communication with the venues from contracts and dates to all onsite logistics

Lead cross-functional teams

Ensure events comply with safety regulations

Create and monitor team schedule

Develop and manage budgets and exercises control in expense management and facility maintenance

Promote company culture and expectations to staff

Ensure staff is adequately prepared for the event

Work with VP and Finance Manager to develop KPI reports

Contribute to Facility Business Plan and execution

Give final operational approval for event set-up

Any additional duties assigned by the VP of Venue Management

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior responsibility in daily P&L management and budget oversight responsibility of $1MM or greater

Proven management and leadership experience in ice rink operations

Prior experience managing hockey or figure skating programming

A minimum of 7 years of management experience

Operational knowledge of risk management

Event operations expertise required

Bachelor's degree in business management, sports management, marketing, hospitality, related field, or equivalent experience

Must be able to work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, holidays based on facility schedules

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel to SFM leadership conferences and other limited travel may be required

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to life 50 pounds waist high

Work is performed in an outdoor environment, which includes exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels

May involve exposure to ice resurfacing equipment and other machinery

May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time in various conditions
