Area General ManagerThe Area General Manager will lead an experienced staff and an engaged hotel team in providing hospitality to guests in a clean, safe, and properly maintained hotel. The GM operates the property as a profitable enterprise, leading the staff as manager, coach and trainer in the proper execution of Front Desk, Housekeeping, Laundry, Facility and Guest Service standards. The GM will lead the team to accomplish financial and operational results, communicating feedback, evaluating performance, and training the team in successful operation of the hotel.As Area General Manager, the successful candidate will operate as GM and will lead other hotel teams in the assigned markets to accomplish outstanding results in all aspects of successful hotel operation.What will you be doing most days?Lead the property in the generation of revenue through sales and marketing effortsMaintain strong knowledge of and relationships in the local marketManage relationships with hotel vendors and negotiate service agreements as appropriateReview financial reports and statements to understand the property’s performance versus its budget and expenses while working to determine areas of concern and develop strategies to improve performanceCoach and support hotel team to effectively manage occupancy, rates, wages and controllable expenses. Strives to accomplish financial goals simultaneously with superior guest and team member satisfaction.Manage costs within the hotel, including supplies, labor, utilities, food, and beverage expenses to within budgeted parametersEnsure service, technical skills, and other training occurs throughout the propertyEstablish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with direct reports and entire teamEstablish a presence with team members on property and actively solicit team member feedback and utilize an “open door” policyHire team members who demonstrate strong functional expertise, creativity, and leadershipObserve service behaviors of team members and provide feedback to individuals and/or supervisors.Review comment cards, guest survey results, and other data to identify areas of improvement with team membersAnalyze service issues and identify trends while facilitating the development of creative solutions to overcome obstaclesInterface with customers on a regular basis to obtain feedback on the quality of product, service levels, and overall satisfactionEnsure that the building is well maintained and that operational areas have an atmosphere that meets or exceeds guest expectationsEnsure policies are administered fairly and consistently and that each team member’s performance is evaluated and recognized where appropriateWork to ensure property meets franchise standards and is a safe and secure facility for guests and team membersWhat are the requirements for this position?You have a minimum of 5 years of progressive hotel management experienceYou have previous hotel management experience with a proven success in leadership of teams and guest service resultsYou have the financial acumen required to work with and understand financial information and dataYou have a bachelor’s degree or an extensive amount of relevant work experienceYou have excellent communication skills in order to convey information and ideas clearly (both oral and written), as well as effective listening skills to understand issues and work toward problem resolutionYou have prior leadership over direct sales efforts producing at least 50% market mix of total revenuesYou have a valid driver’s license from the appropriate stateYou have exceptional time management and multitasking skillsYou have a customer focus and consistently strive to deliver optimal employee and customer satisfaction for the hotelPhysical Requirements for this PositionThis is a physically demanding position.
