Sr Tech Infra Program Manager, Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging

Amazon, Boston, Massachusetts, us, 02298

Sr Tech Infra Program Manager, Mechatronics & Sustainable PackagingIn the Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging Customer Experience organization, we have the unique role and privilege to work backwards from our customer needs and represent their voice through the entire products’ lifecycle (from product development and deployment through to support & service), embodying Amazon’s leadership principle: Customer Obsession. We raise the bar on the readiness of new technologies in deployment and on the performance of those already in production; our mission is to transform “stand-alone work-cells” into “end-to-end integrated solutions” that are safe, easy-to-operate, easy-to-maintain, easy-to-deploy, and easy-to-service while implementing step change improvements in technology deployment rate. Are you enthusiastic about the latest advancements in Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging (MSP) automation technology? Would you like to play a vital role in Amazon's dynamic growth? If you have a passion for making an impact on the future today, consider joining Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging Customer Experience Org.

In the position of Sr Technical Infrastructure Program Manager, Deploy & Ramp Up, you will take a lead role in driving design and operational changes to improve Amazon’s ability to deploy future technology solutions at scale, safely, and with high quality. The team, comprised of Technical Infrastructure Program Managers (TIPMs), engages in product design reviews early in the product development life cycle to implement Continuous Improvement (CI) and Df(x) transformational initiatives, driving step change deployment efficiency improvements and enabling capacity to deploy at scale. These changes encompass design, physical installation and commissioning process, and testing and validation strategy changes to improve delivery performance of MSP’s existing and next generation product portfolio.

The MSP CX D&R TIPM manages all aspects of project management including deliverables, budget adherence, scope management, resource constraints, vendor performance, technical challenges, and handles escalations from their team and partner teams. Managing multiple projects simultaneously, the TIPM ensures delivery at the right time to support operational needs and creates business case alignment to champion resources while constantly managing competing priorities. The MSP CX D&R TIPM is adept at developing new work processes for product deployment, including updating standard work processes and instructions, identifying opportunities for design consolidation or commissioning automation, and driving the implementation of metric systems to monitor and sustain deployment rate performance gains. Typically owning a large scale product or set of products, the TIPM sets standards and maintains quality within their scope of responsibility.

The role requires comfort in handling highly technical work scopes related to automation installation, as well as addressing typical project management escalations that may arise during installations at construction sites or live operation warehouses.

The ideal candidate is proactive and takes independent initiative in technical program management. In parallel to the process improvement including detailing engineering design improvements to the hardware engineering and product teams to simplify the installation (safety, quality, and productivity), you may be responsible for supporting the site level product installations of MSP technologies. This role will require the ability to build relationships and capture and synthesize the voice of the customer. Come help us make history! This is a travel-based role and you will be expected to travel to meet the requirements of your projects across North America, upwards of 75% or more.

Key job responsibilities

Your work focuses on the installation of complex systems, which includes physical installation, configuration, and verification of the installed system performance.

You collaborate with software teams to simplify the technical process. Make recommendations on feature deprecation or when to add new features.

You work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities. You use your strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, track, and deliver multiple projects on time and within budget.

Using your knowledge of industry best practices in Design For Excellence (Dfx), ergonomics, and industrial automation/robotic safety, you provide design requirements for equipment installation at the concept phase of product development.

You use computer aided design and/or simulation tools to validate changes in equipment, processes, and installation and operation procedures required to improve installation repeatability and reduce failure modes as identified through PFMEA/DFMEA.

You conceive, develop, and execute field tests to implement and verify the functionality and performance of deployment rate improvement solutions, including the design of jigs and fixturing to ensure correct positional tolerancing and improve repeatability.

You define the tactical planning on the installation of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact across the functions of schedule, scope, cost and product performance. Projects may span organizations or geographies in support of a business objective, and includes the management of contractors and vendors.

You utilize simulation models to identify and justify performance improvement opportunities via hardware, and process flow changes and to virtually test, validate, and commissioning process improvements.

You continuously deep dive data to monitor technology deployment processes for defects and implement poka yoke solutions to promote ease of installation and prevent future reoccurrence.

You assist in the augmentation and support of traditional assembly methods through advanced inspection capabilities, machine vision implementation, and the implementation of advanced and automated test routines.

You recommend the best option to management based on quantified benefits, costs, and operational impacts, then lead project implementation.

You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (within and outside of MSP). You use this ability to provide program level reports up to director level leadership.

A day in the life

In this role you will be focused on technology deployment process improvement while being ready at any time to step-in and lead deployment execution. On a daily basis you will be expected to collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program and product managers, and internal customers including site maintenance and operations teams, to ensure the product you are deploying, is both ready for deployment and capable of achieving the business requirements. You will travel to product deployment and contract manufacturer sites, collaborate both virtually and in person, to ensure all business stakeholders are aligned on current deployability status and future glide path. You will manage the day-to-day project scheduling and budget management, and work on continuous improvement activities to improve the projects in your space. You will spend time with mentors and your manager to develop your professional skills, and collaborate amongst your team to move the needle on the services you are accountable for. You will communicate with your internal customers, ensuring a proper handover (training, spare parts inventories, machines functional and achieving ramp up targets.

About the team

The Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging Customer Experience (MSP CX) team works backwards from Internal Customer insights to Validate, Deploy and Support MSP solutions in Brownfield and Greenfield Sites globally, maximizing solutions readiness and customer satisfaction. MSP CX maintains unified accountability in the field towards our internal Customers (Maintenance, Operations, ACES, Process Engineering, GES Ops Engineering, etc.), enabling vertical integration and life-cycle management of MSP solutions across 3 pillars: (I) Quality Assurance (MSP CX-QA), (II) Deployment & Ramp-up (MSP CX-DR), and (III) Support (MSP CX-S). The role, as part of the MSP CX-DR is responsible for implementing step-change deployment process improvement from deployability requirement injection and validation at the field-Alphas/prototypes level, through validation of improvement scalability at the Beta and General Availability levels.
