JOB/POSITION TITLE:
Accountant
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities and support of the Finance department which includes payables, receivables, and the administration of various city and grant related programs.
Reports To:
Assistant Controller
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Accounting:
Provide support to Assistant Controller to include vendor updates, recurring month-end journal entries and other schedules upon request. Reconciliation of general ledger accounts as assigned. Process and reconcile Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables. Provide research support for variance analysis, audit and tax schedules, and other adhoc reporting and schedules as assigned.
Discounted Neuter Now & Free Roaming Cat Program:
Administers Discounted Spay/Neuter (Neuter Now) & Free Roaming Cat Programs to include certificate sales and refunds and redemptions, daily deposits to the City, and monthly reporting. Monthly reconciliation of program accounts. Assists with annual update/ renewal of participating clinic contracts and insurance requirements.
Monthly Reports:
Reviewing and creating journal entries for corporate card charges. Assist with daily sales balancing and posting daily sales journal entries. Responsible for updating and reporting available funds for the Neuter Now and Free Roaming Cat program to include any relating journal entries.
Cash Receipts:
Provide backup coverage for Cash Receipts/Donor Data Specialist related to daily sales and petty cash.
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:
Assist with document retention (i.e., scanning and shredding of outdated documents).
Other duties as assigned.
JOB CONDITIONS:
Working Conditions:
Indoor air-conditioned office.
Equipment Use:
Working knowledge of Office 365 suite; MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint helpful. Preferable Financial Edge experience but not required. Other accounting software experience.
Work Hours:
Based on 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday typical schedule, with other hours based on operational requirements.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
Requires working with minimal supervision.
Must be able to multi-task and meet required deadlines.
Position requires a high degree of mathematical ability and attention to detail.
Must be able to work and communicate with people at all levels of The Society and external parties (i.e., City and County of Honolulu employees, bank personnel, vendors, etc.).
Requires patience and tact when dealing with difficult, emotional, or angry people.
Requires handling people and animals in a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner.
Must be able to lift and carry 10 lbs. Must be able to climb stairs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Skills/Knowledge:
Requires an understanding of general ledger structure. Must be proficient with computerized accounting and payroll systems. Must be proficient with Windows-based PC and peripherals. Must have strong Excel skills. Must agree with and be committed to Society goals, objectives, and programs. Must be able to prioritize, work independently, problem solve, and meet deadlines. Position requires a high degree of mathematical ability, high-level customer service, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Education/Training:
Associates degree in accounting required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
3 years of experience required in accounting: general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable. Experience with computerized accounting systems required.
