Position Scope
SES has an immediate opening for a Principal Scientist, synthetic chemistry. The right person will be passionate about mobile energy storage and have the knowledge and skills to extract insights and explore opportunities for improvements from our large cell testing data. The Principal Scientist, synthetic chemistry will report to the Director of Electrolyte and will assist in Synthetic Chemistry experiments.
This position will be based in Woburn, MA, and cannot be done remotely.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate advanced intellectual and technical leadership.
Familiar with advanced lithium metal battery electrolyte synthesis.
Design synthetic route of novel organic and inorganic chemical materials for lithium metal battery independently.
Seek to employ state-of-the-art synthetic, purification, and characterization technologies.
Perform a variety of wet lab experiments and purification.
Develop specific characterization plans for synthetic compounds via various instruments, such as NMR, GC, and LC-MS.
Optimize synthesis for scale-up and develop SOPs for novel synthetic materials.
Adhere to all safety and Good Laboratory Practice regulations as well as company policies.
Collaborate and communicate with other teams in research and development.
Author patent and publication.
Requirements
Ph.D. in Chemistry with 5+ years post-graduate academic or industry experience related to electrolyte synthesis.
Strong background of advanced synthetic chemistry in hetero elements, instrumentation including NMR, GC, and LC-MS, and quality control.
Strong learning ability, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complicated concepts, ideas, and solutions to team members and leadership.
