Head of Finance Operations

Responsibilities:
Lead a team of junior and mid-level staff, overseeing the finance operations of our client’s Malta office.
Provide oversight and monitoring of financial accounting and close activities (quarterly and annual), including preparing Balance Sheet and Income Statement analytics for corporate reporting. This includes managing financial operations and selected Group reporting processes under IFRS Accounting standards (including IFRS 17 & 9) for areas such as treasury operations, investments, tax, general accounting, and Solvency II Pillar III reporting.
Lead the execution and maintenance of accounting and reporting processes for ECON Group reporting, ensuring timely corporate reports for both internal and external purposes by assimilating complex financial data.
Lead or participate in global and local transformational activities to enhance data governance, improve dashboard reporting, and streamline financial close processes. This includes promoting automation, integration, and synergies in finance operations and controls.
Lead or support audit activities related to Financial Operations.
Foster a culture of respect, integrity, honesty, and authenticity, promoting strong team dynamics, organizational alignment, and team development.
Support the CFO in strengthening the financial function and implementing strategic initiatives to ensure the finance operations are well-equipped to meet future challenges.
Employ strong written and presentation skills, maintaining a professional presence during meetings with management, external auditors, and other stakeholders.
Undertake additional projects as needed.
Profile and Skills:
University degree in accounting, reporting, and finance or an equivalent qualification (e.g., ACCA).
7-10 years of professional, post-qualification experience in the accounting field, preferably within a (re)insurance company, with some management experience in a permanent or project lead role.
Expertise in reinsurance technical accounting, particularly with IFRS 17 & 9 knowledge, and Solvency II Pillar III.
Audit and project management experience is preferred; familiarity with control design, quality control concepts, internal control monitoring, and reporting risk evaluation is beneficial. Experience with technical research is an advantage.
Working knowledge of our client’s systems such as FSRI, SAP GT, EDWH applications, and knowledge of our client’s accounting and corporate reporting processes is essential.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain a hands-on approach with strong delegation and monitoring skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in business English.
