The Deputy Chief Academic Officer leads and oversees the district’s school and division improvement initiatives. This role focuses on enhancing academic performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring that all schools and Academic departments meet and exceed district, state, and federal accountability and performance standards. The Deputy Chief Academic Officer collaborates with district leaders, school administrators, teachers, and community stakeholders to implement evidence-based strategies that drive student achievement, close achievement gaps, and meet district expectations.
Leads collaborative teams to achieve District initiatives identified in the Strategic Plan
Works closely with the Chief Academic Officer and provides division leadership in the CAO’s absence
Assists in communicating information regarding instructional and student support programs to the stakeholders of Fulton County
Reports to Cabinet and the Board of Education regularly
Collaborates with the Chief Academic Officer and other district leaders to ensure alignment for school improvement efforts with district-wide initiatives
Monitors the implementation of intervention programs and services for underperforming schools
Engages with parents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to build support for school improvement efforts
Facilitates the sharing of successful practices and innovations across the district
Leads divisions Continuous Improvement processes for the lifecycle of identified division programs to include; ideation, implementation, data collection, evaluation, and improvement/maintenance/sunset processes
Ensures compliance with district, state, and federal accountability requirements and prepares reports for district leadership and the school board
Manages and allocates resources effectively to support school and department Continuous Improvement initiatives
Stays current with research and trends in education and integrates new knowledge into the District’s improvement strategies
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Will oversee or supervise departments as deemed appropriate by the Chief Academic Officer
Required Education
Master’s Degree in School Administration or a related field Certification/Licensure
Must hold or be eligible for Teaching or Leadership Certification Experience Qualifications
Minimum 12 years of progressively responsible experience in management and business administration with at least 3 years of experience in positions of leadership at local school and/or District level Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong background in school and department administration and supervision Demonstrated ability to design and implement an action plan aligned to the District’s strategic plan Ability to plan and implement long-range objectives Ability to effectively use data for decision making Strong decision-making ability, budget experience, proven performance and resource management skills Ability to effectively lead, organize, and direct the work of others Ability to relate to a wide variety of people and to observe, listen and provide leadership which results in the best possible work environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Working Conditions
