Job Summary:Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for National Laboratories ensures the successful stewardship of Argonne and Fermilab, leveraging ties between them and the University for maximal scientific and technological impact. The Vice President maintains key relationships with the Department of Energy and other officials and agencies essential to enhancing the University’s stewardship of the Laboratories and their impact.Responsibilities:Provide oversight of Argonne and Fermilab in furtherance of the University’s management of these DOE Laboratories.Serve as CEO of UChicago Argonne, LLC, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors for Argonne, and as a member of the Board for the M&O contractor for Fermilab.Maintain an active relationship with the DOE at both site offices and headquarters.Develop relationships with local/regional civic, higher education, and business leaders.Collaborate with other leaders in research and innovation.Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Promote a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.Competencies:Ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively.Superb analytical skills and creativity in problem-solving.Scholarly excellence and a commitment to research.Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.Experience at a Department of Energy national laboratory is ideal.Additional Requirements
Education:Bachelor’s degree in related field required.Ph.D. or other advanced degree preferred.Experience:Significant experience in research and administrative functions within a large, complex enterprise.Understanding of government contracts and relations, particularly with the Department of Energy.Record of accomplishment in enhancing research effectiveness.Proven success as a strategic advisor to executive leadership.Required Documents:Resume/CVCover LetterThree Professional ReferencesWhen applying, documents
