About the role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee the operational functions of our school, including Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal Affairs, Political Advocacy, and Student Services. The COO will collaborate with senior leadership to drive efficiency, innovation, and compliance across all departments.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership : Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality support across all departments.

Human Resources : Oversee HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management, ensuring alignment with the school's mission and objectives.

Information Technology : Manage the IT department to ensure robust, secure, and scalable technology solutions for students, faculty, and staff.

Legal Affairs : Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, manage risk, and handle legal matters including contracts, student services, and employment law.

Finance : Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, auditing, and reporting to ensure financial sustainability and transparency.

Political Advocacy : Engage with local and state policymakers to advocate for educational policies that support the school’s mission and the success of cyber education in Pennsylvania.

Student Services : Provide strategic leadership for student services, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment that addresses academic, social, and emotional needs.

Strategic Planning : Work closely with the CEO and board of trustees to develop and implement long-term strategies for growth and operational excellence.

Compliance and Reporting : Ensure the school adheres to all relevant laws and regulations, including charter school guidelines, and maintain accurate records for reporting to regulatory bodies.

Complete special assignments as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPA, SHRM) preferred.

Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in education administration, operations, or related fields, preferably in a charter or public school setting.

Experience in cyber school environment is desired.

Competencies

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

In-depth understanding of Pennsylvania educational laws and charter school regulations.

Experience managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.

Proven ability to advocate for educational policy at the state or local level.

Knowledge and proficiency in technology, MS Office Suite applications, Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems.

Compensation: Annual salary will depend on various factors starting around $125,000.
