The
Senior Accountant
will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of the organization. This role involves financial reporting, budgeting, grant management, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards specific to the nonprofit sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Analyze financial data to identify trends and variances.
Present financial reports to management and the board of directors.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget.
Provide financial analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Grant Management:
Track and report on grant-funded projects to ensure compliance with grantor requirements.
Prepare financial reports for grant applications and renewals.
Audit Preparation:
Coordinate and assist with external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards.
Accounting Oversight:
Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
Review journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting processes.
Tax Compliance:
Prepare and file necessary tax forms, including IRS Form 990.
Stay updated on tax laws and regulations affecting nonprofits.
Internal Controls:
Develop and implement internal control policies and procedures to safeguard assets.
Conduct regular reviews to ensure adherence to accounting practices.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis to support program evaluations and funding proposals.
Provide insights to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s or CPA preferred).
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations (e.g., GAAP, FASB).
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation:
$70,000-$85,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
