I. JOB OVERVIEW

GW's Division for Student Affairs engages and supports student learning by creating and fostering communities that promote personal development. Students are offered opportunities, services, and activities that promote connectedness, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The Student Affairs team is comprehensive and collaborative and supports the mission to be academically rigorous and simultaneously student-centered.The Community Coordinator (CC) is responsible for implementing the vision, mission, goals, and priorities of Campus Living and Residential Education (CLRE) at the George Washington University in the residence halls for residential students. In collaboration with other CCs, CCs are responsible for the oversight of a residential community and serve as a point of contact for residential students. CCs develop the community environment and identity of their residence hall. CCs provide high-level customer service and direct supervision of different types of student staff to facilitate the development of communities, foster a sense of belonging, promote health and wellbeing, and support the residents' learning.CCs coordinate interventions and high-level support to students and their families, manage complex incidents and resident needs, and collaborate with stakeholders across the university to ensure students thrive as members of the GW community. This position includes responsibility for a variety of administrative, operational, and conference-related functions associated with the management of the residence hall/apartment community. During the summer, CCs oversee the management of summer residential students, which includes interns, short-term and long-term stays, and summer students.Position Summary

Manages neighborhood daily needs and operations, including community development, building operations, occupancy management, seasonal transitions, and community and student behavioral support.Provide direct supervision of student staff within their neighborhood.Develop a personal knowledge of individual residents to better provide resources and referrals related to supporting residents.Develop a response to and manage room/suitemate conflicts and mediations, including student and parent/guardian follow-up.Build and maintain student success-oriented relationships with faculty partners, RHA, and other campus partners.Implements the Residential Community Development Plan for their designated residence hall and neighborhood.Serve on committees or collateral assignments to support specialized project areas related to the success of the departmental and Division for Student Affairs, including orientations, training and staff development, programming, communications, summer conference housing, and staff recruitment and selection.Implement needs-based programmatic efforts and university initiatives, including wellness and wellbeing, alcohol and other drug education programming, and support of university traditions and spirit initiatives.Manage neighborhood residential community standards, including adjudicating conduct meetings in consultation with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.Oversee a neighborhood budget for all programmatic initiatives.Enforce and help develop university behavior policy and role model community standards. Serve as part of a 24/7 rotating on-call system to respond to urgent residential needs, campus emergencies, or other incidents in the residence hall.Perform other duties as assigned, including support for Division for Student Affairs-wide projects and initiatives, including new student orientation, student success initiatives, and university events/traditions, as well as participating in and supporting special events and activities and representing unit/division at university-wide events.This position is a live-in position and does require weekend and after-hours work.Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Qualified candidates are required to live on campus as a condition of employment.Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to establish a strong presence in the community in which the CC lives and the greater GW community.Genuine Interest and enthusiasm for direct student interaction with a demonstrated understanding of student learning and success.Previous supervision, advisement, and development experience for student staff and leaders.Willingness to disrupt traditional or convenient practices to create more equitable and student-centered experiences for all residents.Case management and intervention coordination in response to resident needs and family inquiries.Strong customer service, critical thinking, consensus building, and problem-solving skills.Ability to anticipate and successfully manage all aspects of a residential community.Proven collaborative work with external departments, faculty, and campus partners.Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability and comfortability in working through conflict, change, and uncertainty.Creative planning and development of initiatives that connect students in residence halls to the larger GW and DC communities.Willingness to contribute to collective decision-making processes and engage in creative and new solutions.Interest in learning and implementing summer conference needs and management in a residential setting.Master's Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field.Hiring Range
