The Assistant Swim Coach will assist with the supervision and direction of a safe, positive and organized competitive swimming program following the philosophy and goals of the YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Metropolitan Washington Aquatic programs, that will support youth development in spirit, mind and body, strengthen family support and encourage social responsibility. Ensuring that the primary responsibility is the safety of participants during practice sessions.
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position would include, ensures adequate safety procedures are in place for all practices times. Communicates directions and/or corrections in a clear and concise manner. Maintains practice control and discipline at all times. Assistant coach must be in proper attire (bathing suit, t-shirt and shorts) and on pool deck at least five minutes before start of swim practice. Assist with maintaining rosters and attendance records. Assist with designs and delivers practice sessions that teach competitive swimming stroke skills and train swimmers in preparation for competition.
Qualifications and Skills: Must be 18 years of age. Obtain YMCA Swim Coach Certification within three (3) months of hire. Will be required to complete the YMCA Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving within first year of employment. Obtain ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) level 1 certification- The Foundations of Coaching within first year of employment. Possess an outgoing personality with the ability to relate well with participants of various age groups. Must be attentive, multi-faceted, reliable, and a proven problem solver. Must have positive mentality. Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Current CPR and First Aid certificationsWorking Conditions:
