About Department:

The Development and Relationships department seeks to develop the support to ensure full-functioning and growth for Cultivate Initiatives (CI). This includes events, communications, fundraising, grants, partnerships, and more.

General Position Summary:

The Director of Development and Relationships is responsible for leading and overseeing major functions related to fundraising, grants, strategic partnerships, events, and communications.

Compensation/Benefits:

$75,000 - 80,000 annually

Accountability:

Accountable to the Executive Director

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruit and oversee volunteers and volunteer events, including staff involved

Recruit and manage contractors working with Development team

Oversee the Development and Relationships Associate

Duties/Responsibilities:

Build and manage donor relationships in collaboration with Executive Director

Lead fundraising and donor acquisition and retention efforts in collaboration with Board of Directors and Executive Director

Oversee Cultivate Initiatives’ biannual fundraising campaigns

Organize and facilitate Cultivate Initiatives’ quarterly Development Committee meetings

Research and disseminate funding opportunities including governmental and private sources

Participate in governmental funding activities, including proposals, reporting, and other actions as needed by the director team

Coordinate storytelling opportunities for CI staff and neighbors that serve to further the mission of CI

Support the Executive Director on various development-related projects, including but not limited to visits with electeds, speech planning, and more

Direct the representation of Cultivate Initiatives to various partners such as nonprofit organizations, government institutions, news outlets, faith-based institutions, and others

Build and maintain strategic relationships with community groups, individuals, and other entities for the advancement of CI’s mission

Oversee or execute the research, application and reporting for grants, in collaboration with the Director of Finance and respective directors

Oversee the maintenance of Cultivate Initiatives’ donor management system, including donor entries, grant tracking, and pulling reports

Oversee volunteer program, including recruitment, planning, and collaboration with directors and program staff

Oversee events and initiatives to bolster community-building between housed and unhoused neighbors, including but not limited to Eat & Greets, Table for 12s, and other engagement activities

Direct the strategy of and oversee Communications Team to ensure high-quality communication content, including but not limited to social media and promotion, newsletters, annual reports, and other communications relevant to Development and Relationships

Manage activities related to media/news, including but not limited to inquiries, press releases, appearances, and strategic relationships

Actively participate in developing and implementing strategic plans, in conjunction with the Director Team

May implement special projects and activities

May perform other duties as requested by supervisor

Qualifications:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent attention to detail

Very comfortable and practiced with public speaking

Experience leading giving campaigns and other related development activities

Experience securing gifts from major donors

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with grant writing and reporting

Prior experience with managing staff

Experience working with independent contractors to facilitate completion of projects

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred

Connection to Cultivate Initiatives’ geographic focus area of East Portland and East Multnomah County

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional engagements outside

Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels, from quiet offices to louder, industrial settings

Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 15 pounds

Work requires the ability to perform repetitive movements of the wrist, hands, or fingers due to continuous use of computer keyboards and other office equipment

Must be able to work weekends and evenings, when necessary

Being physically present in the CI offices from 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday - Friday

Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or religious exemption

Must be able to provide proof of Driver’s License
