As a

Principal Platform Engineer / Backend Software Engineer I

in the

Data Platforms Orchestration Services (DPOS)

organization you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality releases to our customers by defining application architecture, designing, developing, troubleshooting, maintaining, optimizing, and scaling Charter’s cloud-based backend services, and driving innovation into our product suite.

WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL PLATFORM ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST

Deep knowledge of SW design and enterprise architecture-level patterns

Utilize proficiency in microservices, event-driven architecture, stream-processing systems like Kafka, and building real-time data pipelines.

Utilize experience with NoSQL systems such as MongoDB, Cockroach DB, Apache Cassandra, etc.

A strong collaborator who can work well with a geographically distributed team

Design and build scalable back-end services focusing on performance and resilience.

Partner with product management, platform, and other engineering teams to align on strategy and drive the execution of large-scale initiatives.

Set the vision for architecture and technology choices.

Lead efforts to break down legacy systems, transitioning them into modular, service-oriented architectures that scale across multiple teams and platforms.

Deep hands-on experience working with GraphQL, Java, JavaScript, relational SQL, and NoSQL databases, including Postgres/MySQL, Cassandra/DynamoDB.

Deep systems expertise and experience with stateless/fault-tolerant systems.

Able to recommend new technologies, coding methodologies, and best practices that can help increase productivity and innovate products.

Led building and maintaining systems, supporting millions of active users, with hundreds of millions of daily API calls.

Design, implement, monitor, enhance, and troubleshoot the infrastructure and APIs supporting our family of applications.

Develop the infrastructure architecture strategies, standards, target architectures, and roadmaps.

Lead the implementation of security and advocate for data governance in the company.

Strong expertise in translating business strategies into technical, strategic, and execution plans (roadmaps).

Passion for engineering excellence through automation, unit testing, and process improvements.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

Experience:

8+ years software development experience (JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python)

6+ years exposure to SQL and non-relational databases

6+ years cloud-based platform engineering role experience

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent experience

Technical Skills:

Extensive understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.

Extensive knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis).

Extensive experience with building cloud-based, highly-automated, near real-time data processing platforms.

Skills:

Demonstrates in-depth problem-solving skills, especially in complex systems.

Ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Extensive foundation in “bridging the divide” between software products and the infrastructure that runs it.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities:

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Demonstrated in-depth analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

Full time

This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days)

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree, or equivalent experience with design, architecture, and leadership

Excellent proficiency in microservices, event-driven architecture, stream-processing systems like Kafka, and building real-time data pipeline.

Experience with NoSQL systems such as MongoDB, Cockroach DB, Apache Cassandra, etc.

The base pay for this position generally is between

$110,800.00 and $196,400.00 . The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
