POSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for providing comprehensive scientific consultation that supports account management, in tandem with the internal sales organization, in assigned territory/region. This position will be responsible for evaluating potential new instrument opportunities, supporting new and existing customers in the use of MSD kitted assays, and in the development of new assays in a multidisciplinary setting. The incumbent should be based in the assigned city.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEducate, train and support new/existing customers on MSD instrumentation and data analysis.Train customers on the use of MSD assays, instrumentation, and software.Assist existing customers with assay troubleshooting and data analysis.Provide support for customers wishing to develop their own assays on the MSD platform.May include but not be limited to inflammation, oncology, metabolic disorders, neuroscience, immunogenicity, PK, toxicology, bioproduction.Attend scientific meetings, conferences, and trade shows, providing feedback and reports on findings.Working as part of a team, integrate information between sales and marketing groups to provide resolution of customer issues and expand the customer base through scientific networking. As requested, provide scientific seminars/conferences to prospective customers.Collaborate with account managers in the strategic sales process to expand instrument and consumable sales in the territory.Present internal scientific peer training sessions to sales, FAS, and management teams.Create reports and presentations from assay development visits and new evaluations.Provide feedback from the field to other team members, account managers, and internal groups.Document activities and customer interactions in the CRM software (SalesForce.com).Track, identify and review new literature referencing MSD products and methods.Be aware of and maintain a good working knowledge of key competitor technologies and provide strategic information to the sales team.Other duties as assigned.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. in Life Sciences or related area required.Master's or Bachelor's degree in related field with equivalent experience considered.A minimum of three years of hands-on experience working in a molecular biology lab, clinical lab, discovery lab, or biochemistry in a research or clinical setting is required.Previous experience in a field application or scientific support position is desirable.Experience in protein biochemistry is a plus.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESDemonstrated superior competency in analytical skills and strong scientific fundamentals.Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.Thorough understanding of the principles of immunoassays, their development, and their applicability in different research fields.Ability to independently execute assay and reagent troubleshooting, optimization, and validation experiments.Solid communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format (e.g., documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.).Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy, and reliability of laboratory data.A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely, and diplomatic manner with customers.A good understanding and competency with software and software systems is desirable.Ability to travel and work outside normal business hours as needed.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office and travel on a regular basis.WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position may require up to 30-50% travel within the designated territory to customer sites up to four/five days a week. These visits may include work in a laboratory environment (which can include work with chemicals and hazardous materials).COMPENSATION SUMMARYThe annual base salary for this position ranges from $85,900 to $131,000. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary.
