Position Summary
The Director of Planned Giving is responsible for:
Planning and managing the planned giving program.
Managing a portfolio of prospects, including moves management basics of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Overseeing the program’s supporting services as related to our internal marketing support staff, outside vendors, print media and collateral.
Providing training as needed to other University Advancement colleagues such as major gift officers, annual giving associates.
Supporting and directing the Associate Director of Planned Giving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and manage the Planned Giving Program.
Develop an annual plan and budget for the planned giving program.
Develop and evaluate program goals and produce periodic management reports assessing progress toward goals.
Maintain proficiency in charitable giving issues and tax implications, including but not limited to changes to QCDs and RMDs as governed by law.
Recommend policies and practices related to charitable giving, particularly estate giving.
Serve as an authoritative resource on charitable giving to all fundraisers.
Maintain proficiency with supportive software such as PC Cal.
Serve as university advancement liaison with our finance director and controller as well as banking entities that manage endowed funds.
Oversee the Planned Giving Support services.
Work with the Communications Specialist to develop marketing materials (print and electronic newsletters, brochures, etc).
Work with MARCOM to coordinate with outside vendors, specifically with the content and upkeep of our Planned Giving Web Site.
Supervise and support the Associate Director in carrying out the duties of that position.
Manage a portfolio of Planned Giving prospects.
Identify, qualify and cultivate prospects, developing timely and effective strategies that move prospects toward solicitation.
Solicit prospects personally and support the solicitations made by Directors of Development.
Coordinate with the prospect’s financial and legal advisors.
Develop alternative channels of finding prospects (i.e. financial and legal professionals).
Minimum Qualifications
Education - A college degree or four to eight years of work experience in a related field.Experience - Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
Preferred Qualifications
Candidate should be fluent in the various forms of charitable giving options available today, including but not limited to bequests, trusts, annuities, appreciated stock transfers and other exchanged assets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidate should have experience in strategically managing a major gift portfolio and securing major and planned gifts. Candidate should be technologically adept and experienced in MS Office programs and fundraising/CRM software. Raisers Edge/NXT experience a plus.
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience.
Anticipated Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, evenings and weekends as needed.
