Must possess a valid driver’s license.General Function:This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Director at the Oakbrook Branch of the Summerville YMCA will lead, develop, and launch activities that bring youth, adults, and families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through sports, fitness, camps, family events, and enrichment activities. This position develops, organizes, and implements the following Y programs: youth instructional sports (traditional and non-traditional), adult sports and leagues, family-oriented programs, sports-based partnerships, facility sports rentals, and summer camps.Duties & Responsibilities:Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.Organize and implement sport tournaments.Oversees sports leagues, volunteers, referees, and coaches.Communicates and coordinates games, practices, cancellations, rescheduled events, and program details directly with Coaches.Will work with outside organizations and community members to enhance programs outside of the YMCA.Coordinates and assists maintenance staff in field preparation, safety, maintenance, and upkeep.Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.Management of program rosters, enrollment, and reporting. Evaluate program effectiveness.Recruits, hires, and trains diverse volunteers to meet program goals and quality measures.Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.Develops and monitors the program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.Communicate and model operating procedures to ensure a high level of customer service and ensure a quality customer experience.Creates, manages, and operates all sports camp programs for the branch. Stays in constant communication with other departments and branches to ensure continuity in association.Ability to be flexible to work early mornings, evenings, weekends & holidays.Active involvement in our Annual Campaign. Needs to communicate and include volunteers in Campaign.Education/Experience:Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university in Sports Management/Recreation/Health Sciences or related field, preferred.2-year degree with at least 2 years of related work experience.High School diploma with at least 4 years of related work experience.Two years of experience supervising and developing staff and volunteer teams, preferred.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Physical Demands:Carrying _X_ Kneeling_X_ Pushing_X_ Sitting_X_ Climbing_X_ Lifting_X (up to 50 lbs)_ Running_X_ Stooping_X_ Crouching_X_ Pulling_X_ Standing_X_ Walking_X_Mission Advancement:
