Job SummaryThis is a hybrid role. Will work a 4x10 schedule (four 10-hour days) with the ability to work 2 days from home. Must be local and onsite for outages.
The Electrical and I&C Engineer’s primary role is to proactively manage system performance to meet or exceed plant safety, production, and cost goals by preventing equipment failures and improving system reliability and availability in a cost-effective manner. As the station system expert, the system manager is the focal point of plant knowledge concerning systems (i.e., performance requirements and bases, operating status, performance monitoring and analysis, planned preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, and related industry operating experience).
Roles and Responsibilities
Monitors and trends performance of assigned systems.
Performs and documents system walk downs.
Develops comprehensive System Health Reports and manage recovery plans for degraded systems.
Maintains ownership of the Preventive Maintenance Program technical basis.
Updates Maintenance Rule (Mrule) database and maintain system/function unavailability.
Participates in the long-range planning and lifecycle management.
Experience with any of the following Plant Systems is a plus: Reactor Protection System, Nuclear Instrumentation, DC Battery System, AC Power Systems, Control Rod Drive Systems, Emergency Diesel Generator Systems.

Planning and Organizational Ability - Develops input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc.
Problem Solving and Initiative - Resolves and initiates solutions to routine and/or moderately complex problems.
Communication Skills - Helps coordinate the work of other engineers in an efficient and effective manner.
Interpersonal Skills - Leads aspects of team effort.
Decision Making - Makes decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures.
Business Awareness Characteristics - Understands AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their individual organizational unit.
Minimum Requirements for Nuclear Engineer (Upper Mid-Level/SG 07)
Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
Acceptable Alternatives
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S.
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
Minimum Requirements for Nuclear Engineer, SR (SG 08)
Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited ABET OR 4 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Registration as a PE in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
Minimum Requirements for Nuclear Engineer, PRINC (SG 09)
Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET OR 6 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.
Salary Range
Nuclear Engineer, Upper Mid-level (SG 07): $83,413 - $104,268
Nuclear Engineer, Sr. (SG 08): $94,225 - $122,419
Nuclear Engineer, Princ. (SG 09): $110,656 - $143,853
Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
