Salary: $10,578 to $16,933 per month (EM-08, Minimum to Maximum)

Administers the State's program in entomology, noxious weed control and plant quarantine and inspection and perform other duties as required.

This position is responsible for the highest level of planning, execution and review in the State's program of plant industry research development and management. It includes responsibility for providing leadership and guidance in setting and translating goals into operational terms, in developing optimum organization balance, in projecting and anticipating change and adjustment, in cultivating program relationships and in formulating strategy, broadening perspectives and upgrading effectiveness.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:Legal Authorization to Work:The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in entomology or plant pathology or in agriculture or a related biological science with courses in entomology or plant pathology.

Specialized Experience:Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in plant industry research, development and management. Experience in plant industry includes such fields as insect pest control research, noxious weed control or plant quarantine work.

Supervisory or Consultative Work Experience:Two (2) years of work experience as described under A or B below will be considered qualifying:

A.

Experience in any of the fields in plant industry which included: 1) planning and directing the work of others; 2) assigning and reviewing their work; 3) advising them on difficult problem areas; 4) timing and scheduling their work; and 5) training and developing new employees.

B.

Experience in any of the fields in plant industry serving as a subject matter specialist in a specialized area of work. In order to be considered qualifying, experience should include acting as a consultant to other specialists, administrators and other government and private agencies and individuals; acting as a resource expert to administrators by making recommendations on and participating in the development of programs, plan projections and criteria for standard of operation.

Administrative Experience:Two (2) years of experience in any of the fields in plant industry as described above which included active participation in and major responsibility for the development, management, execution and coordination of policies, activities and programs.
