Our CMS Group provides 3rd party construction management and inspection services for our water and wastewater clients throughout California, and is looking for an entry level Office Engineer in San Diego. This person will support our Southern California offices and construction project sites in the Inland Empire, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego Counties.Essential Functions
Field Duties:
Interpret design/drawings for material installation.Research and make recommendations to resolve arising issues with drawing interpretations, conflicts, interferences, and errors.Assist with RFIs, RFCs, change logs, and project controls.Ensure all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.Prepare and disseminate all required documentation records to the supervisor or manager, such as status reports, punch lists, thorough direction and description on work to be done, sketches of completed work, material requirement calculations, etc.As needed, provide technical support and direction of project material control functions, including implementation and operation of the maintenance program.Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.Assist with layout and surveying activities.Perform additional assignments as assigned by management.Office Duties:
Establish and implement office procedures as they relate to the administration of construction contract.Implement and maintain the web-based electronic document control systems.Implement project controls for distribution and record keeping of construction drawings, contract correspondence, technical records, and other project documents.Review all incoming correspondence and initiate appropriate action.Record minutes of the weekly and monthly project site meetings.Review and process the Contractor’s pay applications.Review and understand the project schedule.Process RFIs and produce weekly and monthly construction progress reports.Assist in reviewing and analyzing Contractor claims.Prepare change orders, manage claims, and maintain all records accordingly.Work in a manner that ensures personal safety as well as the safety of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.Assist estimating staff with quantity takeoffs and solicitation of subcontractors and material vendors.Basic Qualifications
Four-year degree in engineering, construction management, construction technology, science, or related field.0-4 years’ construction industry experience. Knowledge of basic engineering and construction management.Basic knowledge of quality control programs and ability to determine acceptability and deniability of work-based specifications.Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to discipline desirable.Ability to perform trigonometric and geometric calculations, either manually or with a calculator.High interest in the pursuit of a career in the construction industry.Demonstrated excellent writing and verbal communication skills.Excellent computer skills: proven experience with a wide variety of software products including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Project.Proven ability to quickly adapt to new software systems such as CMiC, Lotus Notes and Smartsheet.Proven experience working independently and with limited supervision.Excellent organizational and planning skills.Preferred Qualifications
At least 2 years’ experience in inspection, construction or operations.Prior experience with water/wastewater infrastructure construction.Have experience providing project controls and scheduling.Proven experience working in a team environment.Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position is $75,000 - $95,000/yr., based on experience.MWH Constructors
