Here, creativity happens naturally—we attract top talent and give them a space to grow and collaborate.The Director of Data Governance & Stewardship will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive governance framework that ensures quality, responsible management, and ethical use of data and AI technologies. This role is pivotal in aligning the agency’s practices with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA), AI ethics, and industry best practices. The director will partner with technical, legal, and operational teams to establish a structure and process that ensures compliance, transparency, and responsible use of data and AI, while enabling strong performance and innovation in healthcare advertising.In this hands-on role, the Director will not only provide technical expertise but also collaborate across various teams, including legal, operations, MarTech, and IT. They will need to employ a high degree of diplomacy, balancing competing priorities while ensuring that the agency upholds the highest standards of data governance and stewardship. Effective communication of complex issues and managing relationships with diplomacy will be crucial for success. Additionally, this role addresses gaps in data analysis by dedicating time and expertise to working directly with multiple datasets. The Director will work to ensure data quality and integrity, enabling the identification of trends, prevention or detection of anomalies, and explanation of shifts in key metrics. Their focus will be on establishing robust ETL governance practices that support reliable, data-driven decision-making across the organization.Key Responsibilities:
Data & AI Stewardship Strategy:
Shape the agency’s strategy and approach toward ethical, transparent, and responsible use of data when applied to analysis, modeling, and AI technologies.Design and implement a comprehensive governance framework for data quality, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations, ensuring responsible data management and AI deployment across the business.
Data Quality Management:
Lead efforts to monitor, cleanse, and validate incoming data from various client and agency sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.Continuously assess and improve data stewardship processes to enhance efficiency, security, and scalability in response to business needs and emerging trends.Oversee the lifecycle of data, from ingestion, transformation, and storage to output, ensuring proper data handling throughout each phase.
AI Ethics and Compliance:
Work with the Applied AI group and Legal to ensure the company’s AI initiatives comply with relevant regulations and ethical guidelines, including global AI laws (e.g., GDPR, EU AI Act).Develop processes to assess, mitigate, and monitor risks associated with AI, including bias, data privacy, transparency, accountability, and security.Create mechanisms to ensure AI systems are transparent, explainable, and accountable, fostering trust with clients, stakeholders, and regulators.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with Data Engineering to ensure seamless integration and transformation processes.Collaborate with Legal, IT, Operations teams, and AI leaders to ensure ethical use of AI and consistent data management policies and practices.Lead cross-functional working groups and communicate data & AI governance initiatives across the organization.
Risk Management and Innovation:
Proactively identify risks associated with data governance and AI deployment and develop frameworks to minimize these risks while encouraging responsible innovation.Balance AI innovation with regulatory and ethical obligations, ensuring that AI technologies deployed in marketing strategies align with privacy and data protection laws (HIPAA, GDPR).
Documentation:
Maintain clear documentation of data workflows, processes, and standards to support transparency and continuity within the organization.Generate and maintain robust data management documentation for internal audits and external compliance requirements.
Training and Awareness:
Lead training initiatives to promote awareness of data governance and responsible use of data across all levels of the organization.Support teams in developing AI-driven solutions that are innovative, ethical, and compliant with industry standards and legal requirements.
Technology Integration and Tools:
Partner with the technology team to oversee the use of data management and AI governance tools, including Snowflake (data warehousing), AWS (cloud infrastructure), Tableau (data visualization), Supermetrics (marketing data automation), and Google Analytics (web analytics).Stay updated on AI and data technologies, ensuring the agency is compliant with the latest advancements and regulatory changes.
Key Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. An advanced degree in AI, Data Science, Law, or Ethics is a plus.
Experience:
5-7 years of experience in data governance or AI governance, with a focus on compliance, risk management, and ethical use of data/AI.Proven experience in managing data and AI governance in regulated industries, particularly healthcare advertising.Strong understanding of global AI regulations (e.g., GDPR, EU AI Act) and data privacy regulations (HIPAA).
Technical Skills:
Deep experience with data and AI technologies such as Snowflake, AWS, Tableau, Supermetrics, and Google Analytics.In-depth knowledge of AI technologies (machine learning, deep learning, NLP) and AI ethics, bias, and transparency.Ability to generate and maintain robust data management documentation.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical and ethical issues in a business-friendly manner.Leadership and project management abilities to guide governance initiatives and influence cross-functional teams.Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to anticipate challenges and opportunities in data and AI governance.
Preferred Skills:
Strong knowledge of SQL especially in the areas of: Querying & extraction, validation, transformation, metadata management, ETL management, and query optimization.Familiarity with data governance and AI ethics frameworks in cloud environments: AWS and Snowflake.Certifications in data governance, AI ethics, or privacy (e.g., CDMP, CIPP, AI-specific credentials).Experience in healthcare or highly regulated industries, especially in advertising/marketing contexts.
