Job DescriptionAbout the RoleThe New York Times Company is hiring for an attorney with Intellectual property (IP) experience, including in copyright and trademark matters. You will report to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel who leads intellectual property work.Responsibilities:Advise clients in the newsroom and the business-side on copyright, fair use, trademark and rights of publicity issues, provide IP-related pre-publication review of editorial and marketing content, and assist with IP training sessions.You will play a role in IP enforcement, including investigating reported infringement, preparing cease-and-desist letters and enforcing rights in protected content and trademarks.You will partner with outside counsel to manage our global trademark portfolio, including trademark clearance and registrations, and counseling clients on patent applications and trademark matters.You will contribute to IP protection strategy and programs, including working with other departments on technical measures to reduce IP risks, while providing practical and creative guidance to protect The New York Times platforms.Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.Basic Qualifications:3+ years experience at a law firm or as In-house counsel on intellectual property matters.3+ years experience negotiating and drafting content license agreements and releases.3+ years experience researching and drafting advisory opinions on legal developments in the area of intellectual property licensing.J.D. degree from ABA-accredited law school.Current member of New York bar, in good standing.Preferred Qualifications:Prior experience in intellectual property enforcement.Prior experience advising on trademark matters.Prior experience negotiating and drafting license agreements globally.The annual base pay range for this role is between $180,000.00 and 210,000.00.#LI-HybridREQ#017379The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve.
