For over 40 years, our research has produced breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and children’s diseases, and is anchored by our NCI-designated cancer center and advanced drug discovery capabilities.Summary:An exciting opportunity is available in the Commisso lab to study pancreatic cancer for candidates with robust in-vivo expertise to assist with preclinical research.Duties and Responsibilities:Duties and responsibilities of this position will be approximately 50% live in-vivo experimentation and 50% bench or laboratory-related.Perform pre-surgery preparations including shaving of mice, ear tagging, surgery area setup.Assist with surgeries and perform routine dosing using different routes such as PO, SC, IP, IV.Perform tumor measurements using caliper or ultrasound, body weight, clinical observations.Perform implantation surgeries including subcutaneous and intrapancreatic.Support mouse breeding colony and disease models including breeding setup and genotyping.Perform in-vitro experiments including but not limited to cell culture, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, qPCR, Western Blotting, flow cytometry, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).Support laboratory operations including stocking supplies, inventory, and database maintenance.Perform general duties to support the safe and efficient operation of the laboratory as required.Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.Education and/or Experience:A Bachelor of Science degree along with a minimum of 3 years of experience related to working directly with laboratory animals or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained is required.Practical experience in handling mice, including athymic nude mice and genetically engineered mouse (GEM) models.Familiarity with in-vivo imaging techniques (such as IVIS, BLI, MRI, irradiator) is advantageous.Understanding of in-vivo pharmacology.Other Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:Must be flexible to work various schedules and hours including weekends and holidays when necessary.Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to adapt in a dynamic team environment.Position requires good time management, communication skills, and attention to detail.Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office, Prism, ImageJ/Fiji.Embody the Institute’s core values of Commitment, Collaboration, Communication, Community, and Compassion.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Compensation:The expected hiring range for this position is $43,703.00 - $54,629.00 commensurate with skills and experience.Sanford Burnham Prebys is an equal opportunity employer.
