Avantor is seeking an
Associate Counsel
to join our Legal organization, supporting our Americas Commercial team. The Associate Counsel will be responsible for the drafting, revision, and negotiation of contracts. They must ensure compliance with negotiated business terms, regulations, and Avantor policies and procedures. This person will communicate across functions to resolve contracting issues and disputes.Open to remote candidates. May require occasional travel to Radnor, PA office.What we’re looking for
Education:
JD required; current license to practice law requiredExperience:
5 – 7 years legal experience required with in-house experience preferredStrong background/experience with contract preparation and/or review requiredExperience in the life sciences industry preferred, including working with group purchasing organizations (GPOs), hospital systems, and distributorsExperience in project management and execution on multi-departmental projects a plusMust have working to expert knowledge of contracting concepts and termsExperience reviewing marketing materials preferred.Strong ability to work cross-functionally within a large organizationProven ability to design, present, and implement new concepts and ideas, procedures, organizational changeExcellent analytical and communication skills, as well as good presentation, leadership, and team-building skillsMust work efficiently and be a self-starterStrong workflow and process creation skillsStrong communication and organization skillsGood problem solving and conflict resolution skillsExperience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPointHow you will thrive and create an impact
Works independently to draft, review, and revise agreements, including form agreements for routine sales activities, as well as non-standard agreements for customers, supplier, distributor, clinical, service, and consulting agreements.Learn Avantor contracting policies and analyze draft contracts in accordance with policiesDetermine when complex legal and factual issues must be escalated to senior attorneys and assist in resolution of issuesAssist in creating, implementing, and managing systems that enable the efficient creation, negotiation, oversight, and ultimately execution of Avantor’s agreementsCoordinate contract negotiation with multiple cross-departmental functionsObtain all appropriate and necessary internal approvals for contract terms and provisionsIdentify opportunities for process improvementsPerform file management and records retention dutiesGive and welcome constructive feedback; contribute to building a positive team spiritRequires advanced abilities for contract negotiationRequires ability to communicate with Senior Leadership across the firm regarding legal risks and advise on possible solutions based on expertiseProvide assistance and guidance to Contracts Specialists within the departmentPerform other duties as assignedDisclaimer:
