The Senior Counsel provides legal consultation on complex matters, enterprise-wide initiatives and/or matters significant to the company. This role is seen as a subject matter expert in at least one area of law or has a mid-level understanding of three or more areas of law or lines of business. The Senior Counsel handles matters independently and proactively consults with leadership on complex work.Lowe’s is seeking a highly experienced Senior Corporate Counsel to lead our privacy, compliance, and AI governance efforts reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer and Lead Product Counsel. This role will focus on building a comprehensive privacy program and overseeing privacy operations to ensure regulatory compliance across our products and services. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of privacy laws, data governance, and the implications of AI technologies.What you will doPrivacy Program Development: Lead the design and implementation of a robust privacy program that aligns with business objectives and regulatory requirements, ensuring effective risk management and operational excellence.Compliance Oversight: Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks. Develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance.AI Governance: Provide legal guidance on the ethical and compliant use of AI technologies, advising on risk assessments, data usage, and regulatory considerations.Product Counsel Participation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, and data science, to integrate privacy-by-design principles into the product lifecycle.Privacy Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day privacy operations, including data subject requests, privacy impact assessments, and incident response planning.Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs on privacy compliance and best practices to foster a culture of privacy within the organization.Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key point of contact for privacy-related inquiries, working closely with internal stakeholders, senior management, and external partners.Regulatory Liaison: Engage with regulatory bodies and industry groups to stay abreast of changes in privacy laws and emerging trends, representing the company’s interests.Manage legal matters independently and proactively inform and seek input from the legal leadership team on complex work and enterprise-wide initiatives.Influence officers and build alignment on key enterprise-wide strategic priorities by providing innovative and practical business-oriented solutions on complex issues.Manage and provide direction regarding trends in various litigation categories and guidance to senior business leaders regarding risks and likely outcomes for all assigned litigation and pre-litigation matters.Proactively identify legal risks by assessing internal and external trends, including the regulatory environment and partner with Lowe’s leadership team to develop solutions on key enterprise initiatives that will ultimately drive business results yet mitigate risk.Collaborate and lead the team by identifying risks and influencing decisions on complex projects impacting the enterprise.Serve as a trusted business partner and key point of contact for officer-level stakeholders on key enterprise-wide initiatives and matters of significance to Lowe's.Assign, oversee, and actively manage the work of outside counsel.Partner with the business to develop solutions to drive compliance with the industry's concepts, practices, and procedures.Oversee the work of the legal team to prepare training, deliver memoranda, and presentations on legal matters.Recruit, select, and develop talent. Ensure talent is prepared for growth opportunities and advancement.Required Qualifications:10+ years of experience in privacy law, compliance, and governance, preferably in a corporate or technology setting, with specific experience in AI governance.Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in [state].5+ years' experience handling general liability or personal injury claims or equivalent.5+ years of leadership experience with direct report responsibility or as a leader of teams.1+ years' experience working closely with senior leadership.Licensed attorney in good standing in any state in the U.S.Preferred Qualifications:In-depth knowledge of global privacy regulations and frameworks, along with a proven track record of building privacy programs.Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams.Experience managing complex projects and navigating organizational dynamics.About Lowe’sLowe’s Companies, Inc.
