- It’s about exceeding your potential.We are seeking an experienced Privacy Attorney to join our legal team. As a Privacy Attorney, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with global privacy laws and regulations and advising on data privacy matters. The ideal candidate has a strong background in privacy law, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for safeguarding data. The candidate must be able to learn complex software systems, identify and articulate privacy risks, interact with business stakeholders, effectively communicate and negotiate with clients, and propose privacy solutions throughout a complex and matrixed organization. The role receives direction from Associate Counsel – Privacy with matrixed reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer regarding objectives and prioritization of projects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESContract Review : Review client and vendor contracts, Data Protection Agreements, and vendor relationships to assess privacy implications. Negotiate privacy terms and clauses as needed with clients and vendors.Legal Compliance : Stay up to date with global privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), and data protection laws, regulations, and industry standards. Conduct legal research and advise the organization on compliance requirements related to data protection and privacy.Risk Assessment : Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs/DPIAs) and develop records of processing activities (ROPAs). Identify potential risks related to data processing activities and recommend mitigation strategies.Consent : Advise on and manage client customizations of consent set-ups and user experience during product consent collection.Incident Response : Lead privacy incident response efforts, investigate and manage data breaches, privacy incidents, and complaints.Policy Development : Develop and implement privacy and data protection policies, procedures, and guidelines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives.Training and Awareness : Support development and provision of training to employees on privacy best practices. Foster a culture of privacy awareness within the organization.Data Subject Requests : Advise as needed on data subject access requests (DSARs) and inquiries related to data privacy rights. Ensure timely and accurate responses.Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Products, IT, security, compliance, HR, and other lines of business, as well as third parties, engagement teams, clients, and auditors to address privacy-related issues.Continuous Improvement : Assist with assessments (program maturity, compliance, external certifications), audits, and risk management.PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS5 or more years of experience as a Privacy Attorney, preferably in a global corporate, tech, or law firm setting.In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and their practical application.Familiarity with AI, cybersecurity, and data protection laws and their practical application.Demonstrated success with internal stakeholder communication and client negotiations.Proven success meeting very tight deadlines, managing changing priorities, and promptly responding to internal and client inquiries.Experience using privacy technology and Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) platforms such as OneTrust or TrustArc.Ability to professionally and clearly articulate legal positions with clients and vendors.Experience with product privacy by design is highly preferred.ATTRIBUTESEffective communication with colleagues, management, and clients.Excels at handling multiple projects and managing tight deadlines.Superb organization and prioritization skills.Creative problem solving.Independent thinker with integrity.Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a small team.Excellent legal and business judgment.Strong desire to tackle complex problems and be part of the solution, helping the program grow and mature.Sense of humor.Foreign language skills a plus.EDUCATIONJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, or equivalent advanced law degree (e.g., LL.M.) from a recognized institution.Korn Ferry is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer - Minority/Female/Disability/VeteranAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
