General Job Summary
The Controller at Faith in Action (FIA) will be responsible for the overall financial management of the organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role includes overseeing the accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with applicable regulations. The Controller will lead strategic financial planning, forecasting, and management of Faith in Action, supporting its work in the U.S. and globally, including FIA’s 501c3 and 501c4 organizations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a proven track record in financial leadership within the non-profit sector.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting:
Oversee day-to-day financial operations including cash flow, accounting, bill payments/invoicing, budgeting, financial reporting, accounts payable & receivable, payroll, general ledger and auditing.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and accounting standards.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
Financial Strategy and Planning:
Develop and implement financial strategies to support Faith in Action’s goals and objectives.
Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting and financial planning.
Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors based on financial analysis and projections.
Identify and manage financial risks, including cash flow management, investment strategies, and insurance coverage.
Develop and maintain internal controls and financial & accounting policies and procedures to safeguard Faith in Action’s assets and support its operations.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Ensure the finance team is effectively structured and staffed to meet the organization’s needs.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with Managing Directors/program leaders, fundraising staff, and other key stakeholders to support financial decision-making.
Act as a liaison with external partners, including auditors, banks, and financial institutions.
Grants Management:
Oversee the financial management of grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to funders.
Work collaboratively with the Fundraising department and other departments as needed in relations to financial grants management.

Education & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; (MBA preferred)
Actively licensed as a Certified Public Accountant
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a non-profit organization.
Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards and regulations.
Proven ability to develop and implement strategic financial plans.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
Proficiency in financial management software and tools

Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for the Controller position is
$118,000-$143,500
annually. Faith in Action also offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k plan with employer match and substantial leave time to include paid time off, floating holidays and an annual paid end-of-year break.
