Corporate Credit Risk, within Citi's Business and International Risk division, is a global organization covering wholesale lending to large corporate clients. The team's Senior Risk Managers strive for proactive credit risk management; connectivity with senior management and other key Risk stakeholders; and solution-oriented partnership with Citi's Corporate Banking, Product and Underwriting teams.
This Director (C-15) position will be a Risk Manager on the North American Corporate Credit team, reporting to a Global Industry Specialist and covering large and complex relationships within North America (NAM). The Risk Manager will be responsible for reviewing, challenging and risk managing both Investment grade and Non-Investment Grade exposures. Candidates should have Senior Credit Officer (SCO) experience. The position will interact heavily with Citi’s Corporate Banking, Institutional Credit Management Underwriting, and other product/markets groups in pursuit of its portfolio management and credit approval duties.
This position will be based in New York, NY.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and manage a portfolio of credit exposures (including IG and NIG counterparties) to Citi's North American Corporate clients in compliance with Citigroup’s policies, procedures, and best practices. Responsibilities include review and challenge of quarterly and annual reviews, risk rating accuracy, ongoing determination of emerging risks, and decisioning/recommending of incremental exposure requests.
Provide credit risk approval for new transactions as SCO. Transactions can include: revolving lines of credit, term loans, underwriting positions, derivatives, cash management. Partner and collaborate closely with Citi Corporate Banking and Institutional Credit Management Underwriting (ICM) organizations.
Communicate clearly with aforementioned organizations, particularly with respect to effective challenge (transactions not to be approved, modification to structure or additional due diligence/conditions to approval).
Advise and make concise approval recommendations to senior management.
Interact directly with Credit Review Function (BICR), Internal Audit and banking regulators during their periodic and ad-hoc reviews.
Mentor and guide junior team members.
Assist with special projects.
Co-manage criticized assets with Special Assets colleagues including valuation analysis, amendment approvals and quarterly credit reviews.
Work with Risk colleagues on risk mitigation at both inception of transactions and on an ongoing basis.
Competencies:
Strong understanding of corporate finance, bank and capital markets products.
Knowledge of leveraged and acquisition finance, high yield and loan capital markets.
Ability to work within the bank’s credit risk management framework, policies and procedures.
Proven strong analytical and credit analysis skills with good attention to detail and ability to provide big picture decision making.
Ability to conduct business due diligence and assess a company’s strengths and weaknesses and competitive position within its industry.
Independent problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present analysis and recommendations in a succinct manner to senior stakeholders.
Ability to handle complex transactions, often with short timetables, and to challenge when necessary, while showing constructive leadership capable of suggesting solutions.
Capable of navigating large organizational structure and breaking down silos collaboratively.
Qualifications:
10+ years of relationship banking or credit risk/risk-related work experience in large banking/financial institutions.
Current Senior Credit Officer (or external equivalent) approval authority.
Knowledge of and multiple years of experience in Technology, Media Telecom or Consumer, Retail and Healthcare Industries preferred.
Strong knowledge of corporate finance concepts. Leveraged finance experience strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics preferred.
An MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred and formal Credit Training is a plus.
