Accounting Manager - 533134
Job Summary:
Supports the goals and objectives of Office of Controller by developing and implementing procedures to improve compliance with institutional and Federal/State regulations as it relates to accounting practices for the University. Prepares and reviews reconciliations and journal entries. Analyzes, balances and researches financial data discrepancies.
Identifies problem areas with the insight to recognize potential areas of non-compliance and makes recommendations for policies and procedures and actively seeks to build, improve and adapt methods and directives in order to enhance and promote University compliance while supporting the University's initiatives.
Prepares and reviews reconciliations of accounts and subledgers, journal entries, supporting schedules and other work papers, as well as analyzes balances and researches discrepancies in financial data as they relate to the assigned areas of responsibility.
May assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial information. Creates notes to the Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis and other required reports as assigned.
Evaluates, develops and recommends to the Associate & Assistant Controller policies/procedures to properly record financial transactions and maintain accounting records in accordance with GAAP, University policies and State regulations.
Works with the University community and outside constituents to develop and implement strategies, procedures and processes based on best practices to improve customer service standards. Responds to and resolves issues efficiently and effectively.
May have responsibility for banking and/or cashiering as assigned.
Interprets fiscal and accounting administrative rules and policies. Makes recommendations on new and improved programs to effectively manage fiscal and accounting administration.
Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Controller and the University community.
Supervises and mentors junior staff members as assigned.
Assists with special projects as assigned.
Manages and oversees the validation processes for student refunds.
Works closely with the Student Financial Systems team and provides support as needed.
Manages the creation and approvals of item types.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related business field, to include a minimum of 6 credits in Accounting, and six (6) years of directly-related experience; OR Master's degree in Accounting or related business field, or an MBA and four (4) years of directly-related experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of Excel.
