JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Facilities, in Hershey, PA is seeking an Assistant Vice President. This position is responsible for the strategic development and day-to-day management of the buildings, grounds, utility systems, and supporting infrastructure of the Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus. They are responsible for the design and construction of facilities, architectural quality, landscapes, capital planning, master planning, major maintenance, space utilization, utility procurement, and environmental and safety programs.
This position leads multiple direct reports and an ~140-member (FTE) Facilities Department overseeing all physical plant activities for a 647-bed Academic Medical Center jointly operated by Penn State Health and the Penn State University College of Medicine, serves as the senior engineer and physical plant professional for the 550-acre campus’s 5.2 million square feet of building space, and oversees in-house and contract facility maintenance; grounds maintenance; central heating and cooling plants; waste processing; environmental, occupational and fire safety programs; regulatory compliance; master planning, building and infrastructure design reviews; design and construction standard development; and construction project management.
This position is expected to represent Penn State University for aspects of facility design and construction; demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels and locations to achieve results; develop and implement solutions to highly complex and often controversial problems; develop and articulate broad goals and objectives for the Facilities Department.
Education and experience:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related field as well as either a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license as well as 10-15+ years of relevant experience. Leadership experience within higher education and medical facilities is strongly desired. Familiarity with the Joint Commission as well as capital planning and facility master planning experience are preferred.
