The ideal York Engineering intern is a highly motivated, proactive individual who enjoys learning and is excited about working on space hardware and real missions. Each York Space Systems intern has the opportunity to work on York missions, while participating in a tailored engineering training program. Each intern is provided with a dedicated Senior Engineer as a mentor and is assigned a scope bound project that is challenging yet achievable during the duration of the program. RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to development of a high-fidelity spacecraftExecute a time bound, well-defined project which is of high value to YorkDevelop, execute, and manage complex test plans for mission-specific verification.Develop and execute both manual and automated tests cases, including documentation and trouble shooting.Develop automation for test activities, increasing efficiency of the business.Identify testing methods and test fixturing for risk mitigation, prototype development. and requirement verificationPlan and perform environmental qualification and testing of hardware, including functional testing, vibration testing, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and other qualification tests.Communicate and collaborate with various areas of the business, such as technicians, product and technical leadership, and program managers.Interface with multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholdersContribute to design reviews, process improvement and tool developmentWork closely with systems engineering and program management to define verification strategies and timelinesQUALIFICATIONS
Enrollment in a 4-year degree program at an accredited university studying engineeringMust have completed at least Freshman year of the degree programAbility to commit to a 40-hour work-week for the duration of the InternshipStrong communicator, great team player and overall hard workerSelf-starter and self-motivated with a hunger to learnAn interest in full time employment at York Space SystemsDemonstrated interest in spacecraft and space systemsWilling and able to work in our Greenwood Village, CO office (this is not a remote internship)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with MIL-STD testing and NASA GEVS testing standards.Hands-on experience in space and small satellites, including satellite componentsExperience assembling and/or testing hardware for space environmentsExperience with writing and executing manual and/or automated test proceduresExperience with programming languages such as C++, Python, or similarExperience in overseeing and processing data from environmental tests such as vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and/or thermal-vacuum testingFamiliar with writing test documentation, such as test plans, procedures, and reportsExperience with scripting and test automation toolsExperience working in Linux and Windows EnvironmentsBENEFITS
