Manage financial reporting for HMSA and its subsidiaries to ensure the timely preparation of the HMSA and Subsidiary companies' financial statements.
These financial reports are for both internal and external audiences. Assist the Senior Manager and AVP, Controller in setting policy in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Tax and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).This includes researching, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating financial information to officers, department heads, and internal and external auditors.
Manage and provide direction to staff responsible for the accurate accounting and reporting of HMSA's financial position and performance.
Review staff's work for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established internal controls.Supervise, develop, and train staff to be a productive team. Communicate with other departments to collaborate and share detailed information on a monthly basis.Also responsible for financial compliance with regulatory standards, i.e., individual contract terms, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and other Federal and State regulations.
Actively participate in projects related to new corporate business initiatives and be a business advisor to others within the Association regarding accounting, tax, and financial analysis.
Provide recommendations to control costs within HMSA's established goals.Able to stay current with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) legislation and manage process to report Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) and Risk Based Capital (RBC) for the Association.
Develop and document processes and manage the accounting process for other related programs such as alternative investments, pension and post retirement, VEBA, and investment accounting.
Coordinate preparation of all workpapers and footnotes for both GAAP and SAP-based external audits.
Work with the Senior Manager, officers, managers, and supervisors to assure all major finance and accounting duties and responsibilities are being successfully performed in a timely and efficient manner and within budget.
Provide requested research and assistance on accounting issues.
Perform all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.#LI-Hybrid
Bachelor's degree and five years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.Two years of previous supervisory/management experience or four years of previous leadership experience.Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), CAS standards, FASB Pronouncements, Internal Revenue Code.Knowledge of server-based accounting software systems.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
