ABOUT PUBLIC SAFETY:The Manhattan University Department of Public Safety endeavors to provide a safe, secure,and welcoming environment for the University community, its visitors, and guests. ABOUT THE POSITION:Public Safety Supervisors are vital to promoting a safe and secure campus. They maintainlaw and order on the campus, Supervise the enforcement of University regulations, andrequest assistance from law enforcement agencies when necessary. Qualified candidateswill have excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, strongleadership qualities and sound judgment. Public Safety Supervisors report to ManhattanUniversity Director and/or Associate Director of Public Safety and are responsible for thefollowing:•Protect Manhattan University personnel and facilities against the hazards of fire,accidents and vandalism; supervise the enforcement of all regulations, includingthose in department manual for Security Officers•Supervise personnel securing premises and patrolling property; monitoringsurveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points;permitting entry•Supervise the Protection of the building structure and grounds to which officer isassigned, including the contents, occupants and visitors; patrol as assigned and seekout and take preventive action against existing hazards or conditions which maycause injury, damage or interference with normal operation, and report sameimmediately•Review reports for accuracy and completeness•Ensure operation of equipment and systems; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling forrepairs•Oversee initial investigation of incidents reported requiring follow up•Ensure procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol,parking enforcement and accident investigations are being followed.•Evaluate the performance of Public Safety Officers assigned and take correctiveaction to rectify any differences•Guide visitors and assist in a courteous manner; return lost or found articles to PublicSafety Office; assists ill or injured persons in obtaining care•Public Safety Supervisor will be assigned to work either a day, evening, or overnightshift depending on the needs of the department. The position requires the SecuritySupervisor work holidays, weekends, nights, and a variety of shifts and overtimewhen circumstances warrant. Public Safety Supervisors are considered EssentialPersonnel in order to maintain the safety and security of University property,personnel, affiliates and visitors•Perform related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:•High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelors degree preferred•Valid NYS Guard License, NYS Dept. of State's 8-hour mandated certificate training•First Aid Certification, F-03/F-07 license a plus. Will be required to obtain after hire90 days.•Prior experience in college campus a plus•Must be physically fit•Able to engage in strenuous physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, aswell as standing or sitting for long periods of time•Willing and able to perform duty in inclement weather conditions•Ability to write legible reports, use a portable radio, and use judgment that is soundand proper when addressing emergencies•Valid New York State Drivers License•Prior supervisory experience
