The Town of Burlington is seeking an individual to perform skilled manual work related to the operation of heavy and specialized public works equipment, under the direction of the Superintendent of the Highway Division.

Essential functions

include, but are not limited to:Assist in a variety of public works projects such as maintaining and repairing streets; install, clean and repair culverts, catch basins and drainage lines; sweep streets and sidewalks; repair guardrails and signsOperate specialized and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, basin cleaners and street sweepers; perform manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment; service and maintain equipmentOperate snow removal and sanding vehicles; assist in emergency highway and other public works repairsPerform laborer's duties when not assigned to equipment operationOperate hand tools, mowers, jack hammers, air compressors, clippers, cutting tools and related equipmentLoad and unload trucks; pick-up and haul materialsSubject to emergency recall

Minimum qualifications include

Must possess a CDL Class B LicenseMust possess a Hoisting License 1B, 2A, 4E and 4G.

Applicants without the necessary CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under certain conditions

Must have the ability to operate trucks with a rated capacity of more than three tons up to nine tonsAbility to operate hoisting equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders and catch basin machines, 125 CFM compressors, sidewalk rollers, highway sanders and similar equipment used in Public Works construction and maintenanceMust be available for emergency snow removal and able to plow and sand roads

Full time union position, 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit.

Pay range within Group 86 of the DPW contract starts at $29.78/hr, providing annual salary increases to a maximum rate of $42.35/hr, along with comprehensive and generous benefits.
