The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for a Full-Time Animal Control Officer within the Department of Public Safety. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Senior Animal Control Officer and Director.Examples of Duties
Tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to citizen calls for service, complaints, and requests from other agencies. Inspects and licenses kennels within Wakulla County jurisdiction. Makes periodic oral presentations to schools and various groups in educating the public on animal control issues; issues notice of violations; issues hearing notices; acts as process server; prepares written and oral reports involving contested cases; assists prosecuting Attorney's Office and Sheriff's Office as required in cases or issues involving animals. Also responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of maintaining the shelter.Typical Qualifications
Qualified applicants must be 18 years or older possess a High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in animal welfare or control environment, public health, law enforcement or a related field such as humane society, veterinary office, or kennel. Must be able to lift animals and equipment more than 100 pounds. Must be willing to obtain ACO certification and euthanasia certification within 6-8 months of hire. Must be a resident of Wakulla County to qualify. Previous experience working with the public preferred. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license is required. Applicants must pass a background investigation, driver's license check and drug screening. Must be available to work weekends, early and late shifts, periodically be "on-call", and available on short notice.Supplemental Information
Generous benefits package with a potential value of up to $30,000 annually. Full-time employee benefits include employer sponsored health insurance ($5/month employee only, $305/month whole family), $50,000 sponsored life insurance and short-term disability. Up to 25% of salary contribution to Florida Retirement System, Paid Time Off including holiday, vacation, sick, parental, and bereavement leave.
