Summary:

Serves as a primary contact for the Emergency Department, the Trauma Team, and Life Flight patients. Resolves issues related to scheduling, registration, benefits verification, and payor preauthorization. Responds as a member of the Trauma Activation Team by obtaining and verifying patient information. Achieves the optimal reimbursement for The MetroHealth System through registration, benefits verification, payor preauthorization, making payment arrangements, and cash collection activities for outpatient and Life Flight services that were utilized by the patient. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required: HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.Meets one of the following:•3 years of experience in insurance information collection/assessment, benefits verification, and preauthorization processing. •Associate's Degree in Health Care Management, OR in a related field with a course work concentration in areas such as medical billing, health care data collection, reimbursement, and/or professional service recovery.Ability to read, write, and speak English in a professional manner.Demonstrated skills in customer service, collecting patient demographic and insurance/payor information, and cash collection.Expertise in interviewing patients/family members.Knowledge of medical terminology.All qualified applicants must pass the PSR pre-employment screening test with a score of 75% or better, AND the post-employment test with a score of 80% or better.Preferred: Experience with computer-based billing systems.Proof of completion of a medical terminology course from a recognized healthcare program.Experience in an Emergency Department. Physical Requirements:May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods.See in the normal visual range with or without correction.Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
